Fountain City sits at the end of the First Sea, and the giant fountain in its center is now hiding one of the island’s three Update 30 secrets. A run of pipes on the tower has burst, and until you patch every one of them, the ship wedged near the top of the structure will not budge.
Quick answer: Climb to the top of the fountain, hit every broken pipe with an M1 melee attack, a sword, or a fruit move until it stops spraying water and turns green, then interact with the ship stuck in the tower and ride it down.
Where the Fountain City pipe puzzle is
Head to the enormous central fountain that dominates the island — the same tower that is visible from just about anywhere in the First Sea. The broken pipes are on the exterior of the upper section, and they are not laid out in a tidy ring. One stretch runs along a single face of the structure, and the rest wrap partway around the top, so you need to circle the whole tower rather than assume they are evenly spaced.

There is also a ship lodged in an opening near the top of the fountain. That is the object you interact with once the plumbing is sorted, so make a note of where it sits before you start swinging.

Guns are the trap here. Shooting the pipes with a ranged weapon such as the Dual Flintlock does nothing at all, and players routinely waste a couple of minutes firing at them before realizing they need to get in close.
| Attack type | Works on pipes? |
|---|---|
| Basic melee (M1) punches | Yes |
| Sword strikes (for example Dark Blade) | Yes |
| Fruit abilities (for example Rocket) | Yes |
| Ranged gun shots (for example Dual Flintlock) | No |

Plain M1 punches are the most reliable option because they are quick, cost nothing, and let you stand directly on a pipe while you tap it. Fruit moves are useful when a pipe sits above you and you need the extra reach.
How to fix all the pipes and free the ship

How to confirm the secret is complete
Two things tell you it worked. First, an on-screen notification reads You unlocked the "Grand Brigader" boat! — that message only appears once every pipe is aligned and the ship is freed. Second, the Freezeburg Quest Giver back down on the island will show a star icon above his head.
Talk to him to bank the star for the island. Fountain City has three secrets in total, and clearing all three fills out the island’s three-star mark on the world map, which feeds into unlocking its teleporter. Every star you collect across Sea 1 also counts toward the 40-star total that opens the Teleporter in Middletown.
Why the pipes are not turning green
- You are using a gun. Ranged firearm shots register no hit on the pipes at all, so swap to fists, a sword, or a fruit move.
- You have missed a pipe. The layout is uneven and part of the run wraps around the top of the tower, so pipes are easy to overlook from a single vantage point.
- You went to the ship too early. The exclamation mark prompt only completes the secret after the last pipe stops leaking.
Note: the pipe repair has no timer and no boss attached, so you can do it at any point while you are on the island — including during a Galley Pirate grind — without waiting for a spawn window.
The whole thing takes a couple of minutes once you know that fists beat flintlocks here. Fix the leaks, ride the ship down, and collect the star from the Freezeburg Quest Giver before you move on to the rest of the island’s secrets.
