Hidden Treasure No. 3 is one of the Chance Encounter side quests in Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and it hides its reward in plain sight. Musashi receives Old Drawing No. 3 from an NPC, then has to match the picture to a real spot in Eastern Kyoto. The chest never appears on its own, which is why so many players walk right past the correct gate.
Quick answer: Head to the large Genma-infested temple near the Kamo River – East Spirit Mirror. Enter through the main door just east of the Spirit Mirror, turn right to the large closed gate, stand at the X shown on Old Drawing No. 3, and use Oni Vision (press V on PC) to spawn the chest.

When Hidden Treasure No. 3 becomes available
This quest unlocks after you complete the main mission “Okuni’s Kabuki Dance.” It is listed as Chance Encounter No. 11 among the game’s 18 Chance Encounters. Like the other Hidden Treasure quests, it starts through an NPC you meet while exploring, marked on your map with a Notebook icon.
Open the map, select the Hidden Treasure No. 3 marker, and set it as your destination. When Musashi enters the marked radius, the associated NPC appears. Talk to them to begin the quest. The objective is to find the place shown on Old Drawing No. 3, which looks more like a photograph than a sketch.

The drawing shows an X on a gate next to a tall wall. The map marker points you toward the Kamo River – East Spirit Mirror, but the marker only gives a general area rather than the exact spot. The building you want is the large temple nearby that is overrun with Genma.

When you reach the right destination, a glowing sparkle spreads across the screen and an on-screen notification confirms you have arrived. There are boxes, urns, and vases scattered around that you can break, but you do not need to search the entire area. The chest is deliberately hidden.
Reveal the chest with Oni Vision
The chest stays invisible until you use Musashi’s Oni Vision, the ability that exposes things that are otherwise hidden. If you have reached the correct gate but see nothing in front of it, this is the last step.

Reward and completion check
Finishing Hidden Treasure No. 3 grants Oni Treasure x1. You know it worked when the chest appears after using Oni Vision, the chest opens, and the Chance Encounter registers as complete. Completing all Chance Encounters, including every Hidden Treasure, contributes toward the No Job Too Small trophy and achievement.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Chance Encounter | No. 11 (Hidden Treasure No. 3) |
| Unlocks after | “Okuni’s Kabuki Dance” |
| Nearest Spirit Mirror | Kamo River – East |
| Location | Large Genma-infested temple, inside the wall by the closed gate |
| Ability needed | Oni Vision (V on PC) |
| Reward | Oni Treasure x1 |
The trick to this Chance Encounter is reading the drawing rather than combing the whole temple. Once you match the gate and the X, Oni Vision does the rest, so keep the picture in mind and you can clear it in under a minute.
