The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Catch Some Crayfish for Ocha

Where all three crayfish sit along the riverbank, and what the campfire scene with Ocha leads into.

Ocha asks Coen for a favor during The Heart Wants What It Wants, and it is the kind of favor that sounds harder than it is. She wants dinner, she wants three crayfish, and she is not catching them herself. The optional objective takes under a minute of real time if you know where the shellfish are hiding along the riverbank.

Quick answer: Pick the dialogue option “Sure, I can try.” then loot three crayfish along the bank — two from the woven baskets beside the wooden fishing structure, and one from the old fishing net lying on the mud further along the shoreline.

How the crayfish objective starts

The objective appears during a conversation with Ocha, who opens with “You catch some? We eat together!” Choosing “Sure, I can try.” commits Coen to the hunt and the quest log immediately updates The Heart Wants What It Wants with a new line: “(Optional) Catch some crayfish”. The alternative reply, “Not getting wet.”, is there if you would rather skip the detour entirely.

Ocha sets the quota herself right after you agree, telling Coen she needs “three big ones if want eat good!” That number is fixed. Two crayfish will not move the counter past its requirement, and there is no partial credit for handing over what you have found so far.

Note: if you take this on after dark while Coen is running low on blood, hunger-tinted dialogue options marked “[give in to the hunger]” can appear in the conversation. Selecting one feeds on the character you are speaking to, so read the options before clicking if you want Ocha alive and friendly.

Where to find all three crayfish along the river

Every pickup sits on the same stretch of muddy shoreline, so you never need to swim or wander far from Ocha. Focus Mode, held with L2 on PS5 or LT on Xbox, tints the scene and highlights interactive objects if a container is not obvious against the mud.

Head straight for the wooden fishing structure built out over the bank. A basket sitting at its base holds the first crayfish — walk up until the Loot prompt appears and press Square on PS5 or X on Xbox.

Follow the bank downstream to the next basket. It sits a short jog from the first one, and looting it takes the counter to two while Ocha shouts encouragement from behind you.

Keep searching the shoreline for the third one, which is not in a basket at all. Coen finds it tangled in an old fishing net on the ground, remarking “Hm. An old fishing net.” as you close in. Ocha’s hint here — “Keep look, Coen! Crayfish very sneaky!” — is your cue that the last pickup is the awkward one.

How to confirm the crayfish objective is complete

You do not have to hand the crayfish over manually. The moment the third one enters Coen’s inventory, the optional line clears and a cutscene takes over, moving both characters to a campfire where the catch gets cooked. Ocha signs off the hunt with “See? Catch not hard! Now belly full.”

The scene is the actual reward. Over the fire, Ocha admits she is lost and has a decision to make — she can stay in the city and live among humans, or go back to her clan. Coen’s replies here feed into how her story resolves later in The Heart Wants What It Wants, so it is worth listening rather than skipping through.

What the Crayfish item is worth

Each Crayfish is filed under Junk with a weight of 0.08, and its description points straight at its only other use: “A nice crayfish like this could surely fetch a few coins.” There is no crafting or cooking application beyond Ocha’s meal, so anything you scoop up outside this objective is vendor fodder.

The detour is cheap by the standards of a game where the clock is always against you, with the “Rescue your family” timer ticking down in the corner the entire time. Three baskets and nets, one campfire conversation, and you come out of it knowing exactly what Ocha is wrestling with before the rest of her arc asks you to weigh in.
