99 Nights in the Forest: Elemental Class Perks and Biome Helmets

What the 400-Diamond Elemental class starts you with, how its three levels unlock, and which hazards each helmet cancels.

The Elemental class arrived in 99 Nights in the Forest with the New Classes update on September 5, 2026, alongside the Escape Artist and the Woodsman. It is a 4-star class built around one idea: you pick a biome before the run starts, and you spawn wearing the helmet that cancels that biome’s environmental damage. Snow stops freezing you. Lava stops burning you. Poison stops ticking down your health.

Quick answer: Spend 400 Diamonds at the Classes shop in the lobby to unlock Elemental, equip it before queueing, then choose Snow, Volcanic, or Jungle at the start of the run to spawn with the Mammoth, Infernal, or Boar Helmet as your starter tool.

Elemental biome helmets and what each one blocks

The Level 1 perk is the whole reason to run this class. Each helmet grants complete immunity to its biome’s environmental hazard, which removes the usual gearing-up phase before you can survive in that region. In a snow run, you can stand in the cold from Day 1 while a teammate without warm clothing is still hunting for pelts.

SnowMammoth HelmetFreezing cold temperatures
VolcanicInfernal HelmetFire and lava damage
JungleBoar HelmetPoison damage

The Infernal Helmet changes how the volcanic biome plays rather than just keeping you alive in it. Because lava does nothing to you, lava pools become a weapon — you can walk through them and pull enemies in behind you. That same immunity carries through the volcanic temple and the altar fight, where the Cultist King has to be summoned before he can be killed and the biome cleared.

Elemental class cost and level requirements

Unlocking the class costs 400 Diamonds. The two upgrades after that are earned in-game, and both counters are tied to biomes specifically — chests opened outside a biome and enemies killed back at the main camp do not move the numbers.

LevelRequirementPerk
1400 DiamondsStart with the helmet from the biome chosen
2Open 20 biome chests and kill 80 enemies within a biomeRandom chance to apply a biome effect on-hit, increased when in a biome
3Open 50 biome chests and kill 200 enemies within a biomeSprint faster in biomes and better night vision in biomes

The requirement text sits on the class card in the shop and shows live progress, such as Open biome chests: 0 / 20 and Kill enemies within a biome: 0 / 80. Those numbers carry over between runs, so a single failed snow run still counts toward the upgrade.

Diamonds come from daily quests, chests found while exploring the map, weekly Admin Abuse events, and redeemable codes. Note that the daily quest pool now includes class-specific objectives, so some quests will be unavailable if you do not own the class they name.

How to start a run with a biome helmet

Open the Classes shop in the lobby and buy Elemental for 400 Diamonds. It appears in the shop as a boar-headed character in a green outfit holding a boar head and a knight helmet.
Equip Elemental before you queue. The helmet is a starter tool, so it is granted at spawn only if the class is the one you have equipped when the match begins.
Pick Snow, Volcanic, or Jungle when the run starts. You spawn on Day 1 with that biome’s helmet already in your inventory — no crafting, no trading, no pelt hunting required.

You know it worked the moment you load in: the helmet is sitting in your starter slot, and walking into the hazard you chose against does no damage. If the helmet is missing, the class was not equipped at the time you entered the gate queue.

What the helmets do not protect against

Immunity applies to environmental damage only. Cultists, wolves, polar bears, and bosses hit just as hard whether or not you are wearing the biome helmet, and a snow run can still end at the Ice Temple against Juggernaut Cultists and Crossbow Cultists. Hunger is also untouched — starving out in the volcanic biome kills you the same way it always did.

Ranged weapons still do the heavy lifting — the helmets cancel hazards, not enemy damage.

Treat the helmet as a travel and positioning tool. It buys you the freedom to loot biome chests, cross hazards other classes have to route around, and hold ground next to lava, but you still need a rifle, armour, and food to finish a run.

Elemental’s Quest badge: apply effects to 50 enemies

The update also added a badge tied to the class name. Elemental’s Quest asks you to apply poison, ice, or fire effects to 50 different enemies. Owning the Elemental class is not a requirement — any class can complete it as long as you have a source of elemental damage, such as a Poison Spear used against jungle enemies, and the count does not have to be finished in a single match.

Each of the new badges pays out 6 Diamonds. Claiming all three from the lobby returns 18 Diamonds in total plus an exclusive Bonsai Tree reward. If you are unsure what a badge wants, open the badges menu on the main screen and select the new entry to read its condition.

Tracking progress during a run

The day counter sits at the top of the screen with an INFO button beneath it that lights up when there is something new to read. Events fire on their own schedule regardless of your class, and messages such as “The Ram has woken up” or a meteor shower in the volcanic biome will interrupt whatever chest run you had planned.

The info button under the day counter flags new run information as it appears.

Because both upgrade counters are biome-locked, the fastest route to Level 2 is to commit to one biome and clear its chests methodically rather than bouncing between regions. Level 3’s faster sprint and improved night vision only apply inside biomes as well, which makes Elemental a specialist pick — strong if your runs revolve around Snow, Volcanic, and Jungle, and close to inert if you spend the 99 nights near the main campfire.
