Every Forgemaster Torin requirement, the rod’s full stat line, and how the Idol’s Judgment bar changes a catch.

The Ancient Idol Rod is the first real payoff on Skycrest, the floating island added in Fisch version 2.0. It is not sold anywhere, so no amount of C$ will shortcut it. Forgemaster Torin hands it over only after you finish the opening stage of his questline, and both halves of that stage take real time on the island.

Quick answer: Collect all seven Ancient Idol Charms and catch five Giant fish in Skycrest waters, then talk to Forgemaster Torin in the Skycrest settlement. The rod drops into your inventory the moment both counters read 7/7 and 5/5.

Ancient Idol Rod unlock requirements

Torin’s request is short, and neither part can be skipped or bought.

Everything behind those two lines runs through Idol Favor, Skycrest’s own progression level. Idol trials check your Favor before they open, so a low level stops Charm collection long before Torin is even relevant. Fish the stone idol pond with something fast, such as the Toxin Burst, to build Favor early, then move to Master Hiroto’s timed angler challenges once your level can handle them. Favor also raises the number of Charm slots on the Crest Amulet, which is where the Luck, Control, Resilience, Max Weight, Lure Speed, and Progress Speed bonuses land.

Where the seven Ancient Idols are on Skycrest

The seven idols are Hayate, Ebisu, Fudo, Nagomi, Goriki, Shunsoku, and Amanojaku. They are scattered across the island, but they cluster well enough that one loop covers all of them.

OrderWhere to look
1stSkycrest beach, out in the open
2ndInland from the beach, among the trees
3rdThe grassy hill next to the second idol
4thThe higher floating island above the main landmass
5thThe floating platform directly behind the Skycrest shop
6th and 7thBoth near the flower field

Reaching the fourth idol means going up, not around, so keep the Cloud Glider on your hotbar for the climb between the lower island and the upper section. It also saves a lot of walking on the loop back to town.

Standing in front of a statue does nothing on its own. Each idol runs its own set of trials, and the Charm only appears once you clear that idol’s full set.

Clearing the idol trials for each Charm

The trials vary a lot in shape. Nagomi’s opening task simply asks you to stand completely still for 60 seconds. Others want specific catches under awkward conditions, so check your Skycrest objectives at each statue rather than assuming the pattern repeats.

Two Charms sit behind weather. The Titanic Charm and the Flash Charm come from extreme idol trials that only run during Tropical Squall or Raging Squall. If your progress freezes with five or six Charms banked, that is almost always why. Elder Kaito’s weekly shop sells a Tropical Squall Totem, which forces the weather instead of leaving you waiting for it.

Catching five Giants in Skycrest waters

Giants pull hard, so bring a rod with strong Control and Resilience before you start. Nate’s Blade holds up well against the heavier fights. Only catches made in Skycrest count toward the counter, so Giants landed anywhere else on the map are wasted effort.

Swap gear from the Equipment Bag on your hotbar so you can move between a Favor-farming rod and a handling rod without a trip back to town.

Run the Giants alongside the idol trials instead of after them. Clearing all seven Charms first and only then starting a five-Giant hunt adds a stretch of fishing you could have folded into the island loop.

Turning in the quest to Forgemaster Torin

Torin stands inside the Skycrest settlement, not tucked away on a cliff edge, so there is no hunt involved. Walk up until the talk prompt appears and interact with him.

Submit the seven Charms and the five Giants in the same conversation. You know it worked when the Ancient Idol Rod appears in your rod inventory immediately, with no delay or follow-up trip. Torin’s questline keeps going after that, so finishing this stage does not close out his storyline.

Ancient Idol Rod stats

Open the Fishing Rods tab in your inventory to confirm the rod and read its numbers.

StatValue

Resilience60%

Infinite Max Kg is the line that matters most here. There is no weight ceiling to work around, which makes the rod usable against the heaviest catches straight out of the questline. The 60% Resilience and 0.3 Control also keep it viable for the Giant hunting you were already doing.

How the Idol’s Judgment passive works

Idol’s Judgment adds a second judgment bar on top of the normal reeling minigame. It appears at random during a catch, not on every cast, and it resolves as either Good Judgment or Bad Judgment.

The standard reeling minigame, where the Idol’s Judgment bar can appear on top of the balance bar.

A good result pushes your catch progress up sharply and can cut a long fight short. A bad result slows progress instead. Because the trigger is random, you cannot set it up on demand, so treat it as a swing rather than a stat you can build around.

Common reasons the quest does not complete

  • Idol Favor is too low, so one or more idol trials will not open at all.
  • The Titanic or Flash Charm trial is still waiting on a Tropical Squall or Raging Squall.
  • Giants were caught outside Skycrest and never counted toward the 5/5 total.
  • An idol was visited but its trials were never finished, so no Charm was awarded.

Note: patch 2.0.1, released on 7 September 2026, fixed several issues with the Ancient Idol quests, so a stuck objective from launch week may already be resolved on a fresh server.

Treat Idol Favor as the first thing you farm when you land on Skycrest and the rest of the requirement falls into place on its own. The Charms, the Crest Amulet slots, and the trials all read the same number, and the five Giants are the easy half once your rod can handle them.
