The Treasury sitting in the Cathedral Complex garden in Svartrau is locked, and the key that opens it is not stored anywhere near it. It sits in a separate room inside the cathedral itself, tucked into a ledger, and reaching that room is the whole task. During A Monk and a Saint, the optional objective “Find the key to the treasury” points you at that room, and the payoff is worth the detour.
Quick answer: Enter Svartrau Cathedral during the day, take the first room on the left, get past the Acolyte guarding it by paying 25 denara, then interact with the Treasury Ledger on the table and inspect the key hooked inside the back of the book. Exit the inspection screen and the Treasury Key lands in your inventory.
Treasury Key location and Treasury location in Svartrau
Two different spots inside the Cathedral Complex matter here, and mixing them up wastes in-game time. The key lives in the northwestern part of the complex, in the storage room by the Belltower. The Treasury itself is a separate building out in the northeastern garden.
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Treasury Key | First room on the left once you are inside the cathedral, in the northwestern Belltower section — hooked into the Treasury Ledger on the table |
| Treasury building | Northeastern garden of the Cathedral Complex, reachable by walking out through the complex during the day |
| Guard | An Acolyte blocks the storage room door during the day |
| Bribe cost | 25 denara |
| Free alternative | Help the kid stack boxes for one in-game hour |

Daytime is the safe route. The complex doors are unlocked, nobody hostile is waiting, and the only obstacle is a conversation.

The chests sitting in that same room can be opened with the key right away. They hold a Golden Chalice, a Goblet, a Weathered Longsword, The Savior, and 21 Denarius, which roughly covers the bribe you just paid.
How to get the Treasury Key at night
After dark, most of the complex doors are locked and Xanthe is in the area. Walking in through the front risks triggering an early boss fight against the Vrakhiri, which is rough at low levels. The workaround is climbing instead of walking.
If you are already strong enough and want the fight, beating Xanthe also clears the way to the same room and the same ledger.
Confirming you actually picked up the Treasury Key
Reading the ledger alone does not give you anything. The key only transfers when you inspect it and then close the inspection view, at which point Treasury Key (1) appears among your keys. Check the inventory before leaving the room, because the optional objective will not tick over otherwise.
Two things account for most failed attempts. Backing out of the ledger without inspecting the key leaves it behind, and arriving at night without Shadowstep and Clawride simply leaves you outside locked doors.
Opening the Treasury and finding the hidden room
Leave the cathedral and head into the northeastern garden. During the day you can walk straight out through the unlocked doors; at night you will need Shadowstep to get onto the roof and Clawride to drop safely into the garden. Use the key on the Treasury door.
Do not stop at the first chest. Search the bookshelves for silver valuables, then head downstairs and use Focus Mode. One bookshelf down there can be pushed aside, and behind it is a secret room.
Inside that room, interact with the table to bring up a goblet. Rotate it until Saint Mihai’s symbol comes into view. That is the clue you need to identify the correct crypt tablet out in the cathedral courtyard, which is the step that actually pushes A Monk and a Saint forward.
Treasury rewards worth taking
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Phial of Xanthe’s Blood | Drink it to unlock the Blood Surge ability in the Vampirism Skill Tree |
| Stone Key | Needed later to claim a legendary sword during A Hero’s End |
| Golden Chalice and Goblet | Valuables; the goblet in the hidden room reveals Saint Mihai’s symbol |
| Weathered Longsword, The Savior | Weapons found in the chests |
| Denarius and silver valuables | Coin from the chests, plus more scattered across the bookshelves |
The Stone Key is the one that matters far beyond this building, so grab it even if you are not building into Coen’s vampiric skills. Between a 25 denara bribe and a single in-game hour of box stacking, the daytime route costs almost nothing, and it hands you both the symbol clue and a legendary sword requirement in one trip.
