Ten brand-new Icons make up the Class of ’27, mixing recently retired stars like Sergio Agüero and Raphaël Varane with names from earlier eras such as Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Hege Riise. Six of the ten come from the women’s game, giving the mode its widest Icon spread yet.

Debut versions vs Champion versions
Each new Icon exists as two separate cards. The Debut version is the weaker one you can get first, and it starts at 85 or 86 OVR. It then upgrades to the Champion version, which carries the 89 to 91 ratings shown above. That upgrade is automatic and applies to the same card, so there is nothing extra to complete.

The Champion upgrade rolls out by November 30, 2026. You will know it has landed when the card in your club switches from its lower Debut rating to the higher Champion rating and gains its full stat spread.
How to get a Debut Icon and the 18-player pool
Getting an Icon on day one is tied to the pre-order bonus. The Ultimate Edition and Ultimate Plus Edition each granted an untradeable 85+ OVR International Icon player item for Ultimate Team. That pre-order window closed on August 31, 2026, so the guaranteed reward is locked to players who bought one of those editions before the cutoff.
You do not pick the player. The reward is drawn from a pool of 18 Icons, made up of the 10 new Class of ’27 additions plus eight returning legends. The Debut card lands in your club when early access begins on September 18, 2026, a week ahead of the global launch on September 25. It then receives its Champion upgrade by November 30.
The eight returning Icons in that pool are Zinedine Zidane, Ruud Gullit, Fernando Torres, Gianluca Zambrotta, Lúcio, Andrea Pirlo, Yaya Touré and Bastian Schweinsteiger. Lúcio and Yaya Touré are notable because both previously appeared as Heroes and have now moved up to Icon status.
If you missed the pre-order window, the upgraded Champion Icons are expected to reach normal packs later in the year, in line with how these cards were handled before. There is a separate reward that can cause confusion, too. Some editions include a 93+ Icon Player Pick for EA Sports FC 26, and that item stays in FC 26. The 85+ International Icon is the one you actually receive in FC 27.
Women’s Icons are console and PC only
Six of the new Icons will not appear in the mobile version of the game. Formiga, Hege Riise, Yūki Nagasato, Tobin Heath, Ellen White and Christine Sinclair are exclusive to console and PC, so mobile squads will not have access to them.
Which new Icons stand out
Agüero and Sinclair both carry Finesse Shot+, making them natural fits for anyone who likes curling efforts into the corners. Sinclair also comes with Dead Ball for set pieces, while Agüero pairs his shooting with elite close control up front. Rummenigge’s blend of 91 pace, 91 dribbling and 89 shooting makes him one of the more complete strikers on paper, even with First Touch+ rather than a shooting PlayStyle+.
At the back, Varane leans on Anticipate+ alongside Block and Jockey, which suits a manual defender using a higher line. Pepe is the more physical option with Bruiser+, built to bully attackers off the ball. On the wing, Tobin Heath’s 91 dribbling and Quick Step+ give her the burst to beat full-backs, making her the pick for wide attacking play.
