Bloodgold is the metal that gates almost every high-tier weapon and armor piece in the Deep North, the eighth and final biome added with Valheim 1.0. You do not mine it like Copper or Iron. Instead, you build it from Petrified Tissue harvested off giant trolls, and that means preparing a short chain of materials before the first bar ever appears.
Quick answer: Kill a Gammeltroll so it turns to stone, throw Ember Charges at its ankles to shatter the corpse for Petrified Tissue, then place that Petrified Tissue and Coal in a Blast Furnace and wait about 30 seconds for Bloodgold to come out.

What you need before smelting Bloodgold
Everything funnels into one final action at the Blast Furnace. The two smelting inputs are Petrified Tissue and Coal, and getting Petrified Tissue is the hard part because it requires Ember Charges, which themselves need two separate materials. Here is the full dependency list.
| Item | How you get it |
|---|---|
| Blast Furnace | Crafted with 20 Stone, 5 Surtling Cores, 10 Iron, and 20 Finewood |
| Coal | Burn any wood in a Charcoal Kiln |
| Petrified Tissue | Break a petrified Gammeltroll with Ember Charges |
| Ember Charge | Crafted from 1 Embers and 2 Seal Pelts at a workbench |
| Embers | Collected automatically from an Eternal Pyre |
| Seal Pelts | Killing adult Seals along the Deep North coast |

Ember Charges are the only thing that can crack a petrified Gammeltroll, so build a supply before you go hunting. The recipe is 1 Embers plus 2 Seal Pelts, and a single craft yields 10 charges at your workbench.

Note: The Fader Relic drops from Fader, the boss of the Ashlands. If you already cleared that boss and stored the relic away, dig it out before heading north.
Get Petrified Tissue from a Gammeltroll
The Gammeltroll is the largest creature in Valheim, an ancient troll that roams the open Deep North. It is not a boss, but each hit can drop you in one or two blows, so keep moving and manage your stamina for dodging and blocking.

Petrified Tissue is very heavy, so you can only carry a limited amount at once. It will not travel through wooden portals either. If your portal network is still all wood, build a stone portal specifically for hauling it home.
Smelt Petrified Tissue into Bloodgold
With Petrified Tissue and Coal in hand, the final step happens at the Blast Furnace. Add both materials to the furnace exactly as you would when smelting other ores.

What Bloodgold is used for
Bloodgold is the foundation of the Deep North’s endgame gear, feeding into the new Nord weapon line and its armor sets. The crafting loop runs deeper than any earlier metal, often combining Bloodgold with molds and other Deep North materials to produce the final pieces.
As one example, the Frostfire Greataxe is crafted at the Galdr Table and needs 20 Bloodgold, a Nord Greataxe, and a Frostfire Essence. It is also the ingredient behind the Bloodgold Arrow, forged at the Black Forge from 1 Bloodgold, 2 Feathers, and 8 Timberwood for 92 pierce damage.
Because Bloodgold sits at the start of that progression, a steady stock of Petrified Tissue keeps every later recipe within reach. Once your Ember Charge supply and Blast Furnace are set up, each Gammeltroll you find becomes a reliable source of the metal that unlocks the rest of the Deep North.
