Borderlands 4: How to Find Manager Schulmann in Vinechoked Canopy

Every Tediore Safe Code location, the skull bomb door trick, and the HOA Secret Lair boss fight.

The “Find Manager Schulmann” objective in the Digi-Gauntlet mission “You Can’t Fire Me, I Quit” is not a single waypoint you walk to. Schulmann is hiding behind Tediore’s security layer in the Vinechoked Canopy on Providence Island, and the game expects you to break that layer open before it will let you anywhere near him. That means loot codes, a sealed safe room, and a very long walk through Tediore’s corporate goon squad.

Quick answer: Collect the four Tediore’s Safe Codes scattered around the resort, kill Tediore enemies until four skull bombs drop, stick the bombs on the safe room door and shoot them, place the loot codes on the console and restore backup power, then take the green-lit corridor into the HOA Secret Lair and kill the HR Director.

Objective order for Digi-Gauntlet: You Can’t Fire Me, I Quit

The mission runs on a fixed chain. Each objective only appears once the previous one is done, so there is no way to skip ahead to Schulmann by finding a back entrance. Here is the full sequence as the tracker shows it.

ObjectiveWhat it actually requires
Find Manager SchulmannThe umbrella objective that stays active for the whole sequence.
Collect remaining loot codesFour Tediore’s Safe Codes spread across the resort.
Kill Tediore forcesClear the enemy groups guarding each code spot.

Collect skull bombs from TedioreFour skull bombs, dropped only by defeated Tediore enemies.
Place skull bombs / Shoot skull bombsStick all four on the safe room door, then shoot them.
Place loot codesInsert the codes into the control console inside the safe room.
Restore backup powerUse the console, then survive the ambush it triggers.

All four Tediore’s Safe Code locations in the Vinechoked Canopy

The codes sit out in the open on furniture and debris, but every one of them is parked behind a fight. Grapple points handle most of the traversal between the cliffs, caves, and balconies, so keep them in mind rather than looking for stairs everywhere.

Push into the resort area from the canopy and wipe out the first enemy group. The opening code (1/4) is sitting on a broken concrete slab near the entrance, right where the fighting starts.

Head up to the balcony and deal with the Supervisor waiting there. Code 2/4 is lying on a white lounge chair on that lower balcony.

Climb the stairs and clear the larger Tediore group at the top. Code 3/4 is resting on a stack of Tediore shipping crates.

Grapple across to Vine Pointe Lodge and clear the enemies inside. The last code (4/4) is on a lounge chair in the lodge’s balcony area.

Tip: Dr. Zed’s Meds and an Ammo Dump machine are available around the resort, which is worth a stop before the safe room, because the next two fights come back to back.

Blowing open the safe room with skull bombs

With the codes in hand, the marker moves to the security door. It stays locked until you get into the safe room, and the safe room door only comes down one way — explosives dropped by the enemies standing between you and it.

Fight the Tediore forces around the safe room and pick up the skull bombs they drop. You need four of them, and no other enemy type supplies them.
Walk up to the safe room door and place all four skull bombs on the highlighted spots. The game marks each slot, so it is obvious when one is still empty.
Back off and shoot the bombs. The door blows open and the objective flips to placing the loot codes.

Place the loot codes and restore backup power

Inside the safe room is a control console. The counter on screen reads five loot codes in total — the four you just gathered plus the one you were already carrying when the objective started — and the console will not do anything until every slot is filled.

Interact with the console to place each loot code until the counter hits 5/5.
Use the console again to restore backup power. This immediately calls in an ambush, so expect Tediore reinforcements to pour into the room.
Clear the ambush. Once the room is quiet, a green-lit corridor opens up leading to the HOA Secret Lair.

HOA Secret Lair and the HR Director boss fight

The corridor ends at a chute. Drop down it and you land in a circular arena, which is where the Tediore Super Badass spawns — the HR Director, a Ballistic Redistributor mech. There is no route past it, so bring whatever ammo you topped up earlier and treat the arena as the mission’s real ending.

The run-up to the arena also throws BadassFrame and BladeFrame variants at you in several elements, including Voltaic, Searing, and Gamma versions, along with Cryogenic Supervisors and Radioactive Demolitionists. Elemental affinities matter more on Hard difficulty, so swapping weapons between those enemy types saves time.

Why the objective stops advancing

There are only a handful of ways to get stuck here, and all of them come down to an unfinished sub-step rather than a bug.

  • The security door stays shut because the safe room has not been opened yet. It is gated behind the safe room, not the codes.
  • The safe room door will not break if fewer than four skull bombs are placed, or if the bombs are placed but never shot.
  • Skull bombs only come from killing Tediore enemies, so keep fighting if the counter is short.
  • The console will not restore power until the loot code counter reads 5/5.
  • The corridor to the HOA Secret Lair opens after the post-power ambush is dealt with, not the moment you press the button.

If you are unsure where you left off, the tracker on the left of the screen spells out the current step and its counter, and the map still marks the security door and safe room. And if the run goes badly, the mission is replayable from the Missions menu, so a wiped attempt at the HR Director is not a permanent loss.
