Quick answer: Pick the same Ruleset and faction before anyone creates a character. Only then can you group, share a guild, run dungeons and raid together. Invite-A-Friend codes come with the Skyborne packs and Collector’s Edition.

World of Warcraft: Forever doesn’t have a traditional realm list. It sorts players into Rulesets instead, and that changes how you meet up with friends. If you pick different Rulesets or different factions, you can’t play together.

How to play WoW Forever with friends

Check that every group member has Game Time or a World of Warcraft subscription. Either grants access to WoW Forever, so logging in requires no additional purchase.
Choose one Ruleset as a group. The options are Normal, PvP, Roleplay and Roleplay PvP. A Hardcore Ruleset is planned for later.
Choose one faction, Alliance or Horde. On the PvP Ruleset, each account is limited to one faction, so settle this together before anyone commits.

Create characters using that Ruleset and faction. To begin as Skyborne, your group needs a pack; Skyborne characters start in the separate Zephras Isle area, where they progress through levels 1-12.
After entering the world, bring friends into a party or join their guild. You can also ask nearby players for help in chat.
After you join a group, you may not see your party member. If that happens, accept the phasing prompt to move onto their layer.

You know it worked when your friend is visible beside you and shows up as a member of your party.

What has to match in WoW Forever

You only need two things to line up. Everything else is free to differ.

  • Ruleset: Players must share a Ruleset to group, form guilds, or participate in dungeons and raids.
  • Faction: Alliance and Horde characters can’t group, share a guild, run dungeons or raid together.
  • PvP Ruleset: you’re limited to one faction per account.
  • Names: Each character has a two-part name, and every complete name is exclusive to its region. Friends may use the same second name if each full name remains available.

Seeing your party in the world: Layers

Being in the same party doesn’t guarantee you’re on the same layer. If a party member seems to be missing, use the phasing prompt that appears after you group up. It moves you onto their layer, and you should see each other once it finishes.

WoW Forever dungeon groups and roles

Grouping up makes hard quests easier and gives you access to dungeons. Dungeon groups are generally five players, split across three roles:

  • Tank: keeps enemies focused on themselves.
  • Healer: keeps the party alive.
  • Damage dealers (DPS): do most of the damage.

WoW Forever has nine new five-player dungeons, covering levels 13 to 60.

Campsites and guild chat

Campsites are open-world gathering spots. You can rest there, trade, meet companions and share benefits made with professions. Nearby players can add up to three profession-crafted Camp Features, one each.

If your group talks on Discord, you can mirror guild chat to a Discord channel.

WoW Forever Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes

Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes come with three purchases, and the number of codes depends on which one you buy.

PurchaseLaunch CodesDelivery
Skyborne Heroic PackOneIncluded with the pack
Skyborne Epic PackThreeIncluded with the pack
Collector’s EditionThreeEmail, with the beta code

The Collector’s Edition is sold through the Blizzard Gear Store, with a limit of three Invite-A-Friend codes per household. Its codes are emailed by Legends to the email address used for the purchase, along with the beta code. If you can’t find them, check your spam folder.

Some players who joined through an Invite-A-Friend code ran into restrictions. They couldn’t use certain chat channels, level past 10, join guilds or parties, or trade items with other players. Blizzard fixed this in a hotfix on 5 November 2026 (02:43 UTC).

If you were affected, log out of WoW Forever and log back in to clear the restrictions.
