The Ancestral Abaia is the Secret-tier version of Skycrest’s sealed serpent, and it only appears during its own timed hunt event inside Abaia’s Chamber. You cannot fish it up by chance. The event has one spawn condition, a ten-minute clock, and a five-catch chase that sends you across the island before the fish is actually yours.
Quick answer: With all 10 Sky Crystals placed, stand at the Fire of Spirits in Abaia’s Chamber and offer fish while a Raging Squall is active. That starts the Ancestral Abaia Hunt. Break four Crest Barrier layers across four fishing spots, then land the fifth catch back inside the chamber.
Requirements before the Ancestral Abaia Hunt can start
Everything happens on Skycrest, so the island has to be opened up first. Work through the Keeper of the Sky objectives to build Idol Favor and collect all 10 Sky Crystals, then slot them into the stone gate altar. That drains the pool at the gate and gives you the drop into Abaia’s Chamber, where the Fire of Spirits sits.

Two more things matter before you commit. The Ancestral Abaia prefers night, and its bait preference is the Gombak Bent-Winged Firefly. Neither is a hard requirement, but both push the odds hard in your favor when the barrier catches start. Bring a stack of cheap fish too, because the Fire of Spirits runs on offerings.

Tip: the weather matters more than the meter. A Tropical Squall spawns the ordinary Abaia Hunt instead, and only one Abaia Hunt of any kind can be active on a server at a time.
Breaking the Crest Barrier: the five-catch chase
The Ancestral Abaia never comes up on a single reel. It is wrapped in a Crest Barrier with four layers, and each successful catch strips one layer while the serpent flees to another body of water. A counter on screen tracks it, dropping from “Layers Left: 4” to “Layers Left: 0”.
The route is fixed in shape if not in exact spots. Your first hook is inside Abaia’s Chamber, the next three are at separate fishing locations around Skycrest, and the fifth and final catch happens back in the chamber. Fast travel through the Mystic Mirror or a Gravity Core cuts down the running between each leg, which matters because the whole hunt expires after 10 minutes.
A high-luck rod such as the Enchant Rod paired with Gombak Bent-Winged Firefly or Coral Pearl bait keeps the barrier catches coming quickly. Be ready for a slow reel regardless. The fish has a resilience of 12 and a locked -88% progress speed, plus Level 2 passive block, so the bar crawls even with good gear.
You know it worked when the fifth catch resolves into the Ancestral Abaia itself rather than another barrier layer. The hunt ends immediately at that point, and the fish lands in your inventory with its weight shown on the catch card.

Beyond the sell value, the Ancestral Abaia is a crafting ingredient. It is one of the four materials for the Abaia’s Spite rod at the Ancient Archives anvil, alongside Line of the Skies, a Squalled Abaia, and a Petrified Empyrean Relic, plus 750,000 C$ and level 850.
Why the spawn does not trigger
- All 10 Sky Crystals have not been placed at the gate altar.
- The weather is a Tropical Squall rather than a Raging Squall, which starts the ordinary Abaia Hunt instead.
- The squall ended before your offering registered, so the fish went into an empty ritual.
- An Abaia Hunt is already running on the server. Only one can be active at a time.
- The previous hunt ran past its 10-minute limit and closed out, which means starting the whole condition again.
If the hunt times out mid-chase, nothing carries over. The barrier layers reset, and you need a fresh Raging Squall and another round of offerings before the serpent stirs again. Stocking spare fish and a Sundial Totem before you start is the difference between one clean attempt and a long night of server hopping.
