Blox Fruits: How to Get the Adventurer’s Hat From the Thieving Monkey

The Jungle Island secret hinges on finding a set of footprints, punching the right tree, and turning the hat in.

The Jungle Island secret hinges on finding a set of footprints, punching the right tree, and turning the hat in.

A monkey has been stealing from the Adventurer on Jungle Island, and the only way to get his hat back is to figure out which tree it’s hiding in. It’s one of the three Island Secrets tied to Jungle in the First Sea, and the only part of it that can slow you down is the spawn timer.

Quick answer: Take the “Thieving” rumor from the Adventurer NPC in the middle of Jungle Island, walk the island until you spot monkey footprints under a large tree, hit that tree with M1 attacks to knock down the Thieving Monkey (Lv. 14), kill it, pick up the Adventurer’s Hat, and choose “Return the hat” back at the NPC.

Island Secrets are exclusive to the First Sea and there are 40 of them in total, each worth five levels above the normal cap. Clear all three on Jungle and the island becomes a teleport destination from the building at the center of Middle Town.

How to start the Thieving quest at the Adventurer NPC

Travel to the Jungle in the First Sea and find the Adventurer, the same NPC who hands out the Monkeys, Gorillas, and Gorilla King quests. He sits in the middle of the island on the block with a staircase, and he has a yellow ring around him with a “?” above his head.
Talk to him and pick the Rumor option instead of a normal quest. If the secret is available, he’ll explain that a monkey made off with his hat and is hiding in one of the island’s trees, and a “THIEVING” entry will appear in the quest list.
Accept the quest. The “Nevermind” button is right next to it in the same dialogue window, so make sure you actually take the job before you walk off.

How to find the footprints and spawn the Thieving Monkey

Circle the island and check the grass at the base of every tall tree. The monkey doesn’t use a fixed hiding spot, so the only marker is a small set of footprints on the ground leading up to one trunk.
Walk up to the footprints until the game confirms them with the line “These footsteps look suspicious… I wonder where they lead to?” That’s your tree.
Hit the trunk with basic M1 attacks to shake it. After a few swings the Thieving Monkey [Lv. 14] drops out of the branches.
Kill it. It’s a Lv. 14 melee enemy with a small health pool, so anything past early game deletes it in a couple of hits, but the hat won’t drop until its health is gone.

Punching the marked tree knocks the Thieving Monkey to the ground for the fight.

Tip: the footprints don’t appear the moment you take the quest. The spawn is on a timer that can run past 20 minutes, so if a full sweep of the island turns up nothing, hop to another server and check again rather than standing around.

Collect the Adventurer’s Hat and return it

Look at the ground where the monkey died. The Adventurer’s Hat sits there glowing, and it’s easy to fly past if you immediately start chasing the next thing.

Stand over the hat and use the E-key “Pick up” prompt. You’ll see the message “You recovered the Adventurer’s hat!” once it’s in hand.

The “Pick up” prompt appears once you’re standing over the hat.
Head back to the Adventurer and talk to him again. A “Return the hat” option replaces the rumor prompt.
Pick it and read through the dialogue. He responds with “You found my hat!” and “Thank you! I thought I’d never see it again,” then “Good work. Here’s something for your trouble” as he pays out.

How to confirm the secret quest actually completed

The turn-in fires a large EXP payout and a run of LEVEL UP notifications, and the secret credits five levels along with a five-level increase to your cap. The Adventurer himself is the other giveaway, since he only wears the peach-colored hat once someone has recovered it for him.

There’s a known bug where an Island Secret pays out only two of the five levels. If your level count looks short, keep talking to the NPC until the rest arrive. Leaving the server first forfeits them, and the missing levels then have to be made up through Raid Bosses, Fishing, regular quests, or Sea Events.

Why the Thieving Monkey doesn’t spawn

  • You never selected the Rumor dialogue, so the quest was never active.
  • The footprints haven’t generated yet. The wait can exceed 20 minutes on a single server.
  • You’re hitting a tree with no footprints under it. Only the marked tree reacts.
  • Another player already claimed that spawn. Some Island Secrets allow only one completion per spawn.
  • The monkey died but the hat was left on the ground, so the return option never appears.

Once the hat is back on the Adventurer’s head, that’s one of Jungle’s three stars locked in. The other two are the zipline repair near the Gorilla King’s spawn and the Awakened Gorilla King fight, and clearing all three opens Jungle on the Middle Town teleporter for the rest of your First Sea grind.
