The Shipwreck Region hides five Crystal Skulls, and collecting all of them is the only way to switch off the lighthouses holding up the force field around the Lich King. Each skull sits behind its own island puzzle, and grabbing a skull is only half the job. You still have to carry it to a pedestal and charge it by killing the enemies that spawn.
Quick answer: Find the five islands with green-beam lighthouses, solve each island’s puzzle to open its green Shipwrecked Chest, then place every skull on its pedestal and defeat the spawning enemies until each skull reaches full charge.

How to spot a Crystal Skull island
Every skull island is marked by a lighthouse throwing out a green beam. Sail toward that light to land on the right island. The Shipwreck Region is randomly generated, so the islands do not appear in a fixed spot, and they may not even show up during a given run. Restart if the region never spawns.
Each island holds exactly one green Shipwrecked Chest, and that chest is locked behind a puzzle. Solve the puzzle, open the chest, and the Crystal Skull is yours. You can clear all five solo, though it goes faster with allies helping fight off the enemy waves.

The five puzzles are all different, and because the region shuffles, they will not appear in any set order. Here is what each one looks like and how to open its chest.
Flag raising puzzle
Look for lowered flags glowing red around the island’s edges, plus a green chest wrapped in a small force field. Walk up to each flag and press E to raise it. Skeletons can spawn as you do this, so stay ready to fight during the animation. Once the flags are up, the chest becomes available.
Digging mounds puzzle
This island has mounds scattered around, each topped with a red cross. Equip your shovel, walk to a mound, and press E to dig. Digging can turn up a crab, so keep a weapon handy to swap to. One of the mounds holds the green Shipwrecked Chest containing the skull, and the exact mound changes every run, so keep checking the marked spots.
Extinguishing lantern puzzle
You will recognize this island by its coconut trees and thick vegetation. Search the wrecked boats for lanterns glowing green and press E to put out each one, roughly four or five in total. After the last lantern is out, a short cutscene shows the chest’s spot behind a green bar as the bar lifts. Head there and open the chest.
Grave symbol puzzle
This island is covered in graves, each carrying a symbol, plus a building with a wooden door painted with geometric shapes. Check the door first to learn the correct symbols, then activate the graves that match those shapes in order. The symbols are randomized per run. Match them correctly and the large door opens, giving you access to the chest inside.
Ship cannon puzzle
Spot the massive rock with three coconut trees beside it, then look out to sea for ships marked with red-and-white targets. Step up to a cannon on the island and fire at every marked ship. Once they are all destroyed, the Shipwrecked Chest spawns near one of the ships, ready to open.

Charge each skull and drop the barrier
Grabbing a skull does not shut off its lighthouse on its own. Carry the skull to the red pedestal in the middle of the same island and place it there. That starts the ritual and spawns waves of Skeletons. Kill them with any weapon to feed their souls into the crystal, and keep going until it hits 100% charge.
Every time a skull fills completely, one lighthouse loses power and its beam goes dark. You can track your progress by watching which beams are still lit around the central arena. The barrier only comes down after all five lighthouses are disabled.
When the fifth skull finishes charging, the on-screen message “THE FORCEFIELD IS LIFTED, THE LICH KING AWAITS…” confirms the barrier is gone. That is your cue to enter the central island and take on the boss.
Defeating the Lich King rewards the Necromancer Staff, pulled from the chest inside the boss island after the fight. With all five skulls charged and the lighthouses off, that final arena is the last stop in the Shipwreck Region.
