Remedy Entertainment’s sequel to Control arrives on PlayStation 5 with a specific set of hardware hooks, and the studio has been fairly literal about what each one does. The PS5 version of CONTROL Resonant uses 4K output, 3D audio, fast loading, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback on the DualSense controller, and it is PS5 Pro Enhanced. The other thing worth knowing before you buy is that one edition lets you start two days early.

Quick answer: Buy the Digital Deluxe Edition on PS5 to start playing on September 22, 2026. The standard edition unlocks with the worldwide launch on September 24, 2026.

PS5 features supported in CONTROL Resonant

Five console features are called out for the PS5 build, each tied to a specific part of the game.

FeatureWhere you notice it
4K resolutionThe warped Manhattan exteriors
3D audioPerception-bending, gravity-shifted spaces
Fast loadingTravel between material and other worlds
Adaptive triggersParanatural abilities such as telekinesis
Haptic feedbackEach shift of the Aberrant melee weapon

3D audio works through built-in TV speakers or through analog or USB stereo headphones, so you do not need a specific headset to get it.

The fast loading claim is tied to a structural part of the game rather than just menu speed. Dylan moves between different environments and layers of reality, and those transitions are meant to happen without long waits on PS5 hardware.

Release date and the 48-hour early access window

CONTROL Resonant launches worldwide on September 24, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, with GeForce NOW support at launch. A Mac version follows later in 2026 via Steam and the App Store. The game went gold on August 18, 2026.

Early access begins September 22, 2026 and requires a Digital Deluxe pre-order. That is a 48-hour head start, not a demo or trial, so progress carries into the full launch.

To confirm you qualify, check that the item in your PlayStation Store purchase history is the Digital Deluxe Edition rather than the standard edition. A pre-order of the standard edition does not include the early access entitlement.

On digital storefronts the standard edition is listed at $59.99 and the Digital Deluxe at $69.99. Pre-ordering either edition on PC adds a Hiss Corruption Outfit and a Pickpocket’s Tool Artifact. Physical editions were also opened for pre-order alongside the digital ones.

What the triggers and haptics are actually doing

You play as Dylan Faden, the parautilitarian who appeared as a supporting character in the first game. After years held by the Federal Bureau of Control, he is sent into a Manhattan overrun by the Hiss, the Mold, and a new cosmic force that is rewriting reality. His sister, FBC Director Jesse Faden, is missing.

The combat model is melee-first, which is the main break from the third-person shooting of Control. Dylan’s weapon, the Aberrant, morphs between forms on demand, shifting from a two-handed hammer into dual-wielded blades mid-fight. That shape change is what the DualSense haptics are mapped to, while the adaptive triggers carry the paranatural abilities such as throwing objects with telekinesis.

Remedy is self-publishing the game, with Annapurna Pictures co-financing and co-producing. Mikael Kasurinen returns as director, and the game runs on Remedy’s Northlight engine. It is an action role-playing game with character statistics, multiple talent trees, and customisable weapons rather than a straight sequel in the same genre.

The world is not open world. It is built as several large, distinct zones filled with side activities, hidden encounters, and optional discoveries, with gravity anomalies that fold puzzles and combat onto vertical surfaces.

Rating, accessibility, and PS5 Pro support

The game is rated ESRB Mature 17+ for Violence, Blood and Gore, and Strong Language. It is single-player only, and the PS5 version supports vibration and trigger effects on the DualSense wireless controller alongside PS5 Pro Enhanced output.

Nine accessibility features are listed for the PlayStation release:

  • Individual volume controls and mono audio
  • Basic subtitles for the main story and main characters, plus a large subtitle option
  • Advanced controller remapping
  • Adjustable stick sensitivity and stick inversion
  • Advanced difficulty options, including individual assists
  • Pausing at any point in gameplay or cinematics during offline play

If you are coming in without having played the 2019 game, Remedy built the story to work on its own terms, with Dylan’s journey out of the Oldest House framed as the inverse of Jesse’s journey into it. The practical decision left is the edition, since that is the only thing separating a September 22 start from a September 24 one.
