Ascendant Peak hides its anecdotes in plain sight. Most of them are not quests, chests, or glowing pickups — they are conversations that only happen at a specific hour, in a specific doorway, with a specific pair of villagers who have no idea you are listening. Miss the window and the entry stays blank in your Experience list.

Quick answer: Fourteen Ascendant Peak anecdotes unlock around Hidden Mountain by talking to named NPCs or standing in earshot of their conversations, with several gated to the Zi (midnight) or Wu (noon) hour.

How Ascendant Peak anecdotes unlock

Anecdotes live in the Sentient Beings menu under the Experience tab, filtered by region. Open it before you start and again after each attempt, because the entry appears there the moment it registers.

Two triggers cover the whole set. Some entries need a direct conversation, where you walk up to a named villager and run the dialogue to its end. The rest are eavesdrops, where two NPCs talk to each other and you simply need to be close enough to hear the full exchange without walking away.

Time is the other gate. Several Brighthale Cliff conversations only exist at Zi (23:00–01:00) or Wu (11:00–13:00), so open the time wheel and set the hour before you approach rather than after.

During an eavesdrop the screen offers a wait prompt. Take it and stay put — leaving the area mid-conversation means starting the exchange over.

A dash means the conversation runs without touching the time wheel. The Welkin Way, Belfade Bridge, Skyward City, Chamber of Derivation, and Soughing Knoll teleports cover every approach below, so unlock those landmarks first and the whole set becomes a short loop rather than a climb.

Brighthale Cliff village anecdotes

Six entries sit inside one small settlement. Fast travel to Welkin Way in Hidden Mountain, follow the path toward Brighthale Cliff, and work through the night entries first before flipping the clock to noon.

The Fallen Names

Run up the path to the village building, set the clock to Zi, head inside, and speak with Wen Wan’er. Finishing the conversation closes out the Frugal Burial collection and adds the entry.

Healing the Heart

Stay at midnight and step back outside. Climb onto the rooftop overlooking the village and listen to Yi Qing and Chang Lijuan talking in the space below. The entry lands once their exchange finishes.

The Hidden Dwellers

This one has a prerequisite. Open the Journal and confirm the quest Flickering Hope is complete, then head to the settlement outskirts at night, near the tree stumps and the dog Deng Deng. Talking to Yu’er unlocks the entry and hands over Echo Jade.

Tenderness Beneath the Armor

Switch the clock to Wu and move to the wooden platform near Gao Ziyun, outside the wooden house close to Heaven’s Threshold. He and Liang Ye talk about mending armor, and the entry unlocks as they wrap up.

A Pact Forged in Trust

Leave the time at noon and walk up the nearby wooden stairs to the porch of the next building. Wang Yu and Yi Xiezuo are talking there, and hearing them out registers the anecdote.

Offerings to the Departed

Set the hour back to Zi and find Jia Yinghua at the food preparation table indoors. Pick the An old acquaintance? dialogue option, then interact with her a second time to run the remaining lines — the entry only appears after that second conversation ends.

Tokens of Friendship at Belfade Bridge

Teleport to Belfade Bridge and set the time to Wu before moving. Cui Xiabian and Wu Shuangxiu stand near the outdoor cooking pot by the campfire; walk into earshot and let the whole exchange play out.

A Mysterious Decree below Heaven’s Threshold

Return to Welkin Way and open the map, then mark a point on the ledges below Heaven’s Threshold. Glide off the cliff and across the chasm toward the Qiongqi Artificers’ camp.

Land on the rocky ledge or the wooden structure directly above the camp rather than dropping into it. From there the disciples’ conversation plays out in full and the anecdote registers.

Skyward City anecdotes on the floating ruins

Four entries sit inside the enormous mechanical structure above the peak. You can glide to it from the cliff edge near Belfade Bridge, but once the Skyward City landmark is unlocked, fast travel is far quicker.

Skyfall and Derivation for Fate

Cross the rooftops to the wooden platform beneath the cherry blossom tree. The Muddied Qiongqi Artificer and the Cautious Qiongqi Artificer talk there, and listening in unlocks the entry.

The two artificers do not appear in every build of the game. If the platform is empty, there is no conversation to overhear and the entry has to wait for an update.

Azure Bird’s Chivalry

Move into the wooden interior and follow the upper corridor until you can look over the railing. Master Monkey and the Monkey Disciple are below, discussing bird feed, and the entry drops once they finish.

Halcyon Brew

From the walkways, use celestial seize grapples and the ziplines to climb into the upper sections of the mechanical structure.

Cross the elevated walkway and drop into the interior gear room, then take the wooden stairs down.

Stop in the doorway of the storage room lined with pottery shelves. Master Monkey and his disciple are inside comparing Monkey Brew and Halcyon Brew — stay in the doorway until they are done.

The Art of Feigned Death

Head down the corridor from the storeroom, open the gate, and pull the lever to activate the lift.

Grapple up the outer wall to reach the upper study with the bookshelves.

Tuck in behind the large wooden bookcase while Master Monkey explains immortality methods and breath-holding techniques from the manual. Completing this eavesdrop also pops the Hear No Evil? achievement.

Qi Resonance at the Chamber of Derivation

Mark the Chamber of Derivation on the map and teleport in. Run up the stairs, climb around the exterior scaffolding, then drop onto the lower walkway rather than trying to force the front route.

Step into the broken structure and hold position while Master Monkey instructs the Monkey Disciples on Qi. The entry unlocks at the end of the lesson.

Hidden Gold in the Woods at Soughing Knoll

Teleport to Soughing Knoll in Hidden Mountain and drop a temporary waypoint on the hillside opposite. Glide across the forest or run uphill on foot — either approach puts you in the right clearing.

Land beside the rock where Yang Yao and Shan Qiezhi are talking about Elder Crane. This is the last conversation in the regional set, so it is the one most likely to flip the collection to complete.

Confirming the Ascendant Peak set is complete

Every successful trigger throws an on-screen notification and writes the entry straight into Sentient Beings. Open the Experience tab, filter to Ascendant Peak, and check the list against the table above — anything still greyed out is a conversation you walked away from early or an hour you did not set.

If an entry refuses to fire, the usual fixes are mechanical rather than mysterious. Re-check the clock, re-check that Flickering Hope is marked complete in the Journal for The Hidden Dwellers, and remember that Offerings to the Departed needs a second interaction with Jia Yinghua before it counts.
