The Twins living across the river south of the village hold onto a fishing rod you need early in Graveyard Keeper 2, and they will only part with it in exchange for pottery. The game never spells out where pottery gets made or what it takes, so the request can stall for players who assume the fishing quest is about fishing gear. It is really a crafting task, and it comes down to three things you have to set up first.
Quick answer: Unlock Pottery I in the Building tech tree, build a Potter’s Wheel, then mine clay and craft 6 Clay Plates (2 clay makes 3 plates) to hand over to the Twins.

What you need before making pottery
Everything for this task happens at your base, not near the Twins. Repeatedly talking to them will not move the quest forward. Line up the three pieces below, and the rest is quick.
| Requirement | Cost |
|---|---|
| Pottery I tech (Building branch) | 10 Red + 5 Green Tech Points |
| Potter’s Wheel (Workyard build) | 2 Wooden Planks + 1 Piece of Stone |
| Clay Plates for the Twins | 4 Clay (yields 6 plates) |

The Clay Plate recipe and the Potter’s Wheel blueprint are both locked behind a single technology. Open the Tech Trees menu and go to the Building branch, which sits first from the left. Find Pottery I there.
Unlocking it costs 10 Red Tech Points and 5 Green Tech Points, the small gems you earn by doing actions tied to each color of inspiration. Once you have enough of both, select Pottery I and confirm. That immediately adds the Clay Plate recipe and lets you build a Potter’s Wheel at the crafting table just outside your house.

Build the Potter’s Wheel
Go to the crafting bench in your Workyard and select Potter’s Wheel. It needs 2 Wooden Planks and 1 Piece of Stone. With the materials in hand, you can drop it into any open slot in the surrounding area. If space is tight, clear nearby trees and rocks with your axe and pickaxe, which also hands you useful crafting resources in the process.
If you do not have the two ingredients yet, you will need to build up a short production chain first:
- Wooden Planks come from Woodworking Workbench I, one plank per Board. Boards are cut at the Sawhorse from Logs (chop trees).
- Pieces of Stone come from the Stonemason’s Workbench, which turns 2 Stone and 4 Wood Wedges into 4 Pieces of Stone.
- Stone is mined from boulders with your pickaxe; Wood Wedges are made at the Chopping Spot from Short Logs (dig out a tree stump after felling it).
Those early workbenches require Bronze Nails to construct, which are one of the trickier materials to track down at this stage. Build them before you commit to the pottery run.

Where to find clay
Clay comes from a large pit in the ground, and there is a convenient one right near home. Head southeast through the Inquisition Base, past the small ruins, and look for the sinkhole of clay before the cliffside. Interact with the deposit to start gathering.
This node does not run dry, so you never have to comb the whole map for extra deposits just to finish the Twins’ request. The only real limit is your Energy, since gathering drains it and long stretches of work build Fatigue. Carry some food if you plan to stockpile more clay in one trip.

Craft the 6 Clay Plates and deliver them

You will know it worked when the Twins accept the six plates and the fishing rod lands in your inventory, letting the quest advance. If you still cannot find the Clay Plate recipe or place a Potter’s Wheel, check the Tech Tree and confirm Pottery I is actually unlocked. Receiving the quest does not grant the technology or workstation automatically, and crafting only works once the wheel is built.
