The old perfume workshop inside Whiterose Tower has seized up, and the last thing Awen needs before she can blend anything is a working drive gear. That means two separate obstacles: an Ancient Iron Crate sitting on a rail, and a boulder wedged into the machinery above. Both are solved with force rather than cleverness.

Quick answer: Twine with a powerful Aniimo, push the Ancient Iron Crate down its track until it reaches the stone wall, use it to reach the upper walkway, and break the rock blocking the drive gears.

Where the workshop objective appears in A Fragrant Journey: Rosetower Woods

This is the closing task of A Fragrant Journey: Rosetower Woods, the fourth section of the Legend of Flowers and Thorns chain. Rosetower Woods sits in the Breezy Plains at region levels 44 to 51, so bring a party that can survive the trip in. The section starts from the clue “A Perfumer Who Ventured Deep into Danger?”, and Awen only appears during the day.

Everything before the workshop repair has to be done first. In short order, that means:

Meet Awen in Rosetower Woods, then again at Whiterose Tower.
Find a way inside and read her grandparents’ perfumer notes.
Twine with a Dewy, collect nectar from the tower’s top, then brew it in the Dewy nest.
Bring Awen the Whitesnow Rose Aromathyst.

Only after that does the workshop itself become the target, with Awen standing beside the blackboard and the distillation apparatus, explaining the crate-pushing mechanism and how Cubbos send iron crates slamming into stone walls.

How the Ancient Lithorail and Ancient Iron Crate puzzle works

The crate and its rail are a standard overworld puzzle type across Idyll. Push a damaged iron box onto a matching Ancient Lithorail track and it slides along the rails at speed, carrying its momentum into whatever sits at the far end. Here, the far end is a stone wall, and the collision is the point — the crate is meant to wedge against it and become a platform.

Ancient-patterned crates elsewhere in the world often respond to the Pathfinder’s Gravity Pull instead of raw attacks, so read the on-screen prompt before you start swinging. In the workshop, the prompt is a ram.

Ram the iron crate and clear the jammed drive gears

Speak to Awen inside the workshop to trigger the dialogue about the mechanism. She is the one who points out that the crate is supposed to be driven into the wall, which flags the track as the next thing to interact with.

Twine with a melee Aniimo that hits hard — a fire-element wolf form handles it cleanly — and drive the Ancient Iron Crate along the track. Keep pushing until it reaches the wall structure at the end of the rail and stops there.

Swap to a climbing Aniimo and scale the crate, then the stone wall above it, until you reach the wooden scaffolding on the upper level. The crate is what makes that climb reachable, so do not skip the ram and try to find another route up.

Follow the wooden walkway toward the large drive gears. A boulder is lodged inside them, and Awen’s dialogue pops up to confirm the gear is jammed tight by the rock and that brute force is the answer.

Hit the boulder with a charging attack. One good charge shatters the stone and frees the gear, which completes the objective to restore perfume production.

How to confirm perfume production is restored

The confirmation is visual and immediate. Once the rock breaks, the camera cuts to the freed machinery and the gears start turning smoothly again inside the ruined workshop, and the objective ticks off in your tracker. If the gears are still stuck, the boulder has not been fully destroyed — hit it again rather than looking for a second switch.
