World of Warcraft: Forever Explained – Release Date, Skyborne, and What It Adds

A new permanent branch of Azeroth built on the original level-60 world, launching alongside Classic and modern WoW.

A new permanent branch of Azeroth built on the original level-60 world, launching alongside Classic and modern WoW.

World of Warcraft: Forever is a full new version of the game that rebuilds the original 2004 Azeroth and keeps expanding it. Instead of raising the level cap, it stays at level 60 and adds new zones, quests, dungeons, raids, a new playable race, and fresh race and class combinations on top of the world where the game began.

Quick answer: At 3:00 p.m. PST on November 4, 2026, Forever becomes available worldwide. Any active WoW subscription or game time grants access, and the beta is underway before release.

Release time: November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST

How Forever fits alongside Classic and modern WoW

Forever is a permanent, separate branch of the game. It does not replace the modern game or World of Warcraft Classic, and it runs beside both of them. Blizzard Entertainment has framed the three as distinct eras, with the live game, the faithful Classic recreation, and Forever each living on their own servers.

The key difference from Classic is that Forever changes the original game rather than preserving it exactly. It sits in its own continuity, taking place during the first year of Azeroth, after the events of Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before the fall of Molten Core. From that starting point, Blizzard plans to keep the world growing through regular content patches and updates rather than moving on to later expansions.

You do not level past 60. Progression instead comes from new stories, activities, gear, abilities, and systems built to keep players inside that original level range.

What Forever adds at launch

The launch build focuses on filling in corners of Azeroth that were never developed and telling stories that run alongside the original game. The headline additions are below.

Class balance also gets attention across the board, with revamps to every class and specialization so more builds stay viable in combat. Optional graphics upgrades and transmog support are included as well, both with toggles for players who prefer the classic look.

New and reworked zones

Zephras Isle

Zephras Isle is a floating island in the sky that serves as the home and starting area for the Skyborne. Once a secluded oasis, it now faces an outside threat, and the new race’s early questline is built around defending it and securing its future.

Riverglades

Riverglades is a sprawling region in the Eastern Kingdoms that shifts from green hillsides to the ruins of old keeps. You reach it through a fork in Redridge Mountains that used to be a dead end. The zone brings back the Brotherhood of the Horse and pits players against the Boulderok Ogre clan and the Twilight’s Hammer.

Mount Hyjal

Mount Hyjal returns as a renewed, high-level zone and acts as the finale of the leveling journey. Both old and new threats stalk its slopes, and the area includes an uneasy joint camp where the Horde and Alliance cooperate. Beneath the mountain sits Barrow Deeps, an eight-boss raid.

Beyond the new zones, several older areas have been reworked, and existing dungeons offer new rewards to bring veteran players back through familiar content.

The Skyborne race and Walk on Air

The Skyborne, known natively as the Shen’dorei, are a neutral race of windswept elves. Because they are neutral, you choose which side to join at creation, either the Windshaper Horde or the High Order Alliance. Their look leans on celestial architecture and glowing turquoise and purple detailing.

Their signature racial ability is Walk on Air, which turns a fall into a controlled horizontal glide across cliffs and open terrain. Existing races also receive racial changes as part of the update.

Unlocking the Skyborne race requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition, priced at $29.99 for the race unlock and Zephras Isle starting experience.

New race and class combinations

Forever opens up pairings that were not possible in the original game. Alongside the Skyborne, several existing races gain access to classes they never had before.

  • Forsaken (Undead) Paladins
  • Dwarf Shamans
  • Gnome Priests
  • Human Hunters
  • Orc Mages
  • Troll Warlocks

Level 60 cap, dungeons, and the Legacy system

The leveling journey runs from level 1 to 60, and that cap stays in place indefinitely. Dungeons begin around level 15, and raids support flexible group sizes, with 10- and 20-player formats as the focus and select 40-player content at launch.

Progress also carries across your account. The Legacy system grants account-wide rewards each time you advance a character, so alternate characters benefit from the work you have already done. Completing challenges feeds into these Legacy advantages as well.

Other systems are reworked to lean into the social, slower-paced feel of early WoW. That includes a new Camping system, changes to Professions, and updates to Honor. A Hardcore mode is also part of the plans.

How to get access and pre-purchase editions

Base access to Forever comes with an active WoW subscription or game time, so you do not need to buy a separate box to play at launch. You know you have access when Forever appears as a selectable version alongside modern WoW and Classic in the Battle.net desktop app.

Optional upgrade editions add cosmetics, the Skyborne race, beta access, and more. You can pre-purchase them on the Battle.net Shop.

The beta began September 17, 2026 and runs through October 21, 2026 for players with the Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection. Early Name Reservation opens October 27 and runs through November 3. A physical Collector’s Edition is also available through the Blizzard Gear Store while supplies last.

The Warcraft Forever Collection is a limited-time package tied to BlizzCon 2026 and is available through January 11, 2027.

Taken together, Forever gives players a way to return to the earliest version of Azeroth without treating it as a museum piece. The original level-60 world stays intact, but with new places to explore, new heroes to play, and a promise of steady updates that keep the map growing over time.
