A huge skeletal creature stands in the Street of the Tomb Masons in the Paris Streets, blocking the entrance to Holy Innocents’ Cemetery. It moves on all fours and wields an enormous bone as a club.

Quick answer: Start at the Undercity Mirror of Life and fight with the open street at your back. Wait for each swing to finish before striking, and avoid being trapped against a wall.

Where to find the bone beast in the Street of the Tomb Masons

Before the battle, the nearest save point is the Mirror of Life in the Undercity. Leave through the door on the left to enter the Street of the Tomb Masons.

Head left along the street. On the middle floor you will hit wooden barricades that block the path.
Break the barricades with your attacks, then descend to the street.
Continue left until you reach the street’s opposite end. At ground level, the beast stands before a cemetery fence; a stone angel statue and dead tree are behind it.

Bone beast attacks and their tells

The beast attacks often: its swipes come every few seconds when you stay next to it.

Bone swipe

It pulls back before sweeping the huge bone across its front. The blow connects roughly one second after the wind-up begins. It often follows with a second swing a little over a second after the first, so do not step back in right after the first one misses.

The skeletal beast bounds rapidly to the left past the stone angel pedestal

Low sweep

It sweeps low across the ground, sending a red-white streak of light through the area ahead.

Dash

It rushes straight toward you across the street, covering the distance in a single lunge.

Frenzy

Just before it is defeated, the camera zooms closer as it launches a final, frantic assault. Keep well away as its health nears its end.

How to beat the bone beast

Success depends on controlling your distance. Leave the open street behind you for retreat, attack once a swing has ended, and move away as soon as it begins to rear up again. Wait until its second swing is over before approaching.

Keep it from trapping you against either street-end wall. If your back is against one, there’s no space to dodge the swipe, and most of its swipes will connect.

Keep open street at your back so the beast cannot trap you in a corner.

Stay beside its unobstructed side, attack after each swing, and move beyond its reach when it starts winding up. Use potions to heal between attacks, not during a wind-up. On PlayStation, drink by holding L1; on PC, hold X.

What is past the bone beast

Once the beast is defeated, its bones crumple and the way on the left becomes accessible. Go through the doorway there to enter Holy Innocents’ Cemetery.

The first room is the Cemetery Entrance, a chapel with a haloed statue and candles. Walking on starts a short talk between Rose and The Fallen, and the banners “HOLY INNOCENTS’ CEMETERY” and “CEMETERY ENTRANCE” appear.

Continue a little farther through the cemetery to reach the next Mirror of Life in the Cloister before exploring.
