Enshrouded: How to Get Twigs Near Your First Flame Altar

Twigs are the simple material you need to craft the Summoning Staff in Enshrouded, the tool that places your rescued Blacksmith at camp. You can gather them right where you start, in the open grass surrounding the first Flame Altar on the Plains, without any special gear.

Quick answer: Walk up to a small fallen stick lying in the grass near the altar, hold E for about a second and a half, and the “Twigs” pick-up appears. One Twig crafts the Summoning Staff.

Why you need Twigs during Find The Sleeping Survivor

After you wake the Blacksmith and commune with the Flame at your first Flame Altar, The Flame tells you the survivor should be placed into the world “with a Summoning Staff, which you can craft from simple Twigs.” This happens during the quest “Find The Sleeping Survivor”, on the objective “Summon The Survivor”.

Open the menu and check the recipe under Crafting, Essentials. The “Summoning Staff” entry sits under Tools and is marked Common. It needs Twigs x1, and before you collect any it reads Twigs 0/1.

Where to find Twigs near the first Flame Altar

Twigs are fallen sticks lying on the grass near the first Flame Altar. Both of the sticks we picked up lay within about 25 m of the altar, in the open grass between the altar and the nearby trees. They are easy to miss, so look for a thin brown stick on the ground among the grass and white flowers. The interactive Enshrouded map helps if you lose track of the altar on the Plains.

How to pick up Twigs and craft the Summoning Staff

Move close to a stick lying in the grass and check the bottom of the screen. Once you’re near enough, the prompt “E Collect nearby loot” appears.

Keep E pressed for roughly a second and a half; a quick tap has no effect. The stick disappears, and a “Twigs” pick-up notice shows on the left side of the screen. Repeat this with another stick if you’d like a spare.

Open the menu with I and go to Crafting with V. With two sticks collected, the Summoning Staff recipe shows Twigs 2/1 in green, and Space = Craft is available.

Press Space to craft. One Twig is used, so the count drops to 1/1 and your spare stays in the inventory. The Summoning Staff moves onto the action bar.

How you know it worked

Select the Summoning Staff on the action bar. The prompt “TAB Attune summoning staff” appears, and the corner reads “Flame protected area”. That confirms the staff is ready to place the rescued Blacksmith, Oswald Anders, at your base, which wraps up the Blacksmith rescue.

With the Summoning Staff equipped, the screen prompts “TAB Attune summoning staff” while chasing the “Summon The Survivor” objective.

One thing to skip while you are here: swinging your sword at the green leafy bushes and smashing the barrels and crates around the base does not yield Twigs. Stick to the fallen sticks in the grass, and a single one is enough to get the Summoning Staff in hand.
