The Shoebill is a limited Uncommon pet that arrived in Adopt Me! on October 16, 2026, with week three of the Halloween Event. Unlike most event pets, you can’t buy it right away. You first have to complete a short errand in the Hotel using items dug out of the Crypt, and only then does the pet go on sale.
Quick answer: Open Crypt graves with Crypt Keys until you have 3 Lost Socks and 1 Headphones, hand them to the guest doors upstairs in the Hotel, then buy the Shoebill for 18,000 Candy Corn.
Your Journal tracks this too. Under the Halloween 2026 page, the Shoebill shows up as the one entry you can’t adopt yet, with a note telling you to find the Lost Sock at the Crypt.
Shoebill unlock requirements
Everything the unlock needs comes from one place, the Crypt, and gets spent in one place, the Hotel. Here’s the full shopping list before you start.
| Item | Amount | Where it comes from | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lost Sock | 3 | Crypt graves | Hotel guest door (socks) |
| Headphones | 1 | Crypt graves | Hotel guest door (loud music) |
| Crypt Key | 1 per grave | Task Board, minigames | Crypt graves |
| Candy Corn | 18,000 | Event activities | Shoebill purchase |
Both the Lost Sock and the Headphones are Uncommon event items. Neither can be traded, so you can’t buy them off another player or borrow a friend’s spare. You have to pull them yourself.
Lost Socks and Headphones are temporary. They disappear from every inventory when the Halloween Event ends on October 31, so hand them in before then.

The Crypt is a multi-level dungeon in the Halloween area. You can reach it on foot or through the pumpkin teleport prompt, where you pick Crypt from the list. Inside, each grave or coffin costs one Crypt Key to open, and walking up to one without a key gets you the message “You need a Crypt Key to open this…”
Opening graves also uncovers ladders that lead to deeper levels. In a typical run, the Headphones turn up on Lower Level II, while the Lost Socks show up on Lower Level III and Lower Level IV. Keep digging down until all four items have dropped.
Don’t expect a perfect run. A single grave can also pay out 1,000 to 3,000 Candy Corn instead of the item you want, and no fixed drop rate is published for the socks or the Headphones. Four keys is the absolute floor, but plan to spend more.
Crypt Key sources
| Source | Keys |
|---|---|
| Task Board event tasks | 1 per task, 3 tasks a day |
| Task Board completion bonus | 1 for finishing all 3 |
| Ghost Gallery | 1 for beating the boss |
| Hauntlet 2 | Up to 2 per run |
The Task Board is the steady supply, at four keys a day. The Crypt’s graves are also the same ones that lead to the Mummy Spider at the very bottom, so any key you spend on the sock hunt pulls double duty as progress toward it. Once you reach the bottom, you can reset the Crypt rewards and start a fresh run if you’re still short on socks.
Each drop triggers a pop-up such as “You found Lost Sock!” Before leaving, open your Backpack and check the Halloween tab. You want to see the Headphones and three Lost Socks sitting there.

How to unlock the Shoebill at the Hotel
The unlock is a small story about noisy, sock-less hotel guests. You fix both of their problems, and the Shoebill, who just wants some quiet, finally comes out of its room.

Room numbers on these doors differ between playthroughs, so go by what each door is doing (loud music, missing socks) rather than a specific number.
Ways to get the Shoebill after the unlock
Handing over the items doesn’t give you a free pet. It opens up the Shoebill as something you can buy or hatch.
| Method | Cost | Needs unlock? |
|---|---|---|
| Buy at the Hotel door | 18,000 Candy Corn | Yes |
| Basic Egg | 400 Pet Releaser Tickets | Yes |
| Admin Abuse Egg | Free (giveaway, now trade-only) | Yes |
| Trading | Whatever another player accepts | No |
At 18,000 Candy Corn, the Shoebill is the cheapest of the three Candy Corn pets added in week three. The pet itself is tradable even though the Lost Socks aren’t, so trading is the only route that skips the Crypt entirely. After October 31 it leaves the shop, and trading becomes the only way to get one.

How to confirm the Shoebill unlock worked
The game is loud about success. Each of these signals shows up in order as you finish the errand and buy the pet.
- The sock guest thanks you with “That’s all of them! My toes are saved!”
- A cutscene opens the Shoebill’s door and plays its “peace and quiet” line.
- The Shoebill’s prompt reads “Shoebill 18000 Candy Corn.”
- After purchase, a “New Pet Discovered! SHOEBILL” splash appears.
- A “Journal Updated!” window marks the Shoebill entry on the Halloween page.
If the Shoebill was your last missing pet, the Halloween 2026 Journal ticks over to 13/13, and a Newborn Shoebill follows you back down into the lobby.
