Fortnite: How to Unlock the Jack-A-Nape Skin for Free

Jack-A-Nape takes 26 Fortnitemares quests before November 1, and some Reload quests stay blocked until Nitemare Island returns.

Jack-A-Nape takes 26 Fortnitemares quests before November 1, and some Reload quests stay blocked until Nitemare Island returns.

Fortnite’s Fortnitemares 2026 event gives Jack-A-Nape—the wind-up monkey outfit in the Carving Corps set—as a free reward. No V-Bucks, Battle Pass, or code is required, but you must complete a set number of event quests. If you were planning to tackle them this weekend, note that some Reload quests can’t be finished on the map currently available.

Quick answer: Complete 26 Fortnitemares quests across Battle Royale, Horde Rush, and Reload before Fortnitemares ends on November 1, 2026. The outfit lands in your Locker automatically at 26.

Jack-A-Nape unlock requirements

Every condition for the outfit fits in a short list. None of them involve buying anything.

  • Finish 26 quests from the Fortnitemares category in the Quests tab.
  • Completions from Battle Royale, Horde Rush, and Reload add to one shared quest tally.
  • You have 35 quests available, which means you can leave as many as nine unfinished.
  • Each quest also pays 15,000 XP.
  • The event timer reads “Ends: Nov 1, 2026, 7:00 PM,” and the quests leave with it.

Epic released the quests in weekly batches starting October 1, with the Reload set arriving October 8. The final wave is now live, so all 35 quests are available to work on. That was the main thing holding players back earlier in the month.

How to find the Fortnitemares quests in Fortnite

From the Fortnite lobby, open the Quests tab. If the event category is missing, make sure your game is fully updated and restart the client.
Select the Fortnitemares category. This screen lists every live quest, grouped by mode under labels like “RELOAD: NITEMARE ONE,” along with the reward track and your current count.

Pick the quests you want and queue for the matching mode from Discover. Battle Royale, Horde Rush, and Reload are separate playlists, and a quest only progresses in the mode it names.

Reload quests need Nitemare Island, not Squid Grounds

Several Reload quests are tied to named spots on Nitemare Island. Reload’s rotation has swapped that map out for Squid Grounds, which has entirely different locations, including Player’s Power, The Labyrinth, and Affluent Arrivals. Progress made on Squid Grounds does not count toward these quests.

The later Reload sets unlock in a chain. “RELOAD: NITEMARE TWO” requires you to complete a Reload quest first, so a stalled Nitemare One also holds up the next batch.

Nitemare Island is due back in the Reload rotation around October 19–20. Until then, put your time into Battle Royale and Horde Rush quests. Once the map returns, you’ll have roughly two weeks before the November 1 cutoff to clear the Reload set.

Quick Fortnitemares quests in Battle Royale and Horde Rush

The first-week quests are the easiest way to build your count while Reload is blocked. Two of them only take one action.

ModeQuestTarget
Battle RoyaleSmash a Pumpkin Chest to find a Sprite1
Battle RoyaleDamage opponents with the Bonerattler SMG500
Battle RoyaleRestore health or gain shields with consumables500
Battle RoyaleSearch containers at Named Locations20
Horde RushChoose Perks while in a match15
Horde RushPurchase a starter kit from a Vending Machine1
Horde RushCollect Cube Monster Parts500

Nightmare Neighborhood works well for the Battle Royale set. It has plenty of chests and ammo boxes for the container quest, and Pumpkin Chests turn up around it. Damage, healing, and container progress all carry across matches, so you don’t have to finish any of them in one game.

For the starter kit quest, use the red Starter Kits vending machine, which costs 200 Cube Monster Parts. Buying a weapon from the blue Monster Part Vending Machine does not count.

Jack-A-Nape reward track

The outfit is the last of eight free cosmetics on the Fortnitemares track. The rest unlock along the way, in this order:

  • Banner icon
  • The Clockwork Ape loading screen
  • Wind-Up Key back bling
  • Monkey Biz
  • A Jack-A-Nape-themed cosmetic
  • Jack’s Tambourine pickaxe
  • Tambourine Surprise emote
  • Jack-A-Nape outfit (26 quests)

On the Fortnitemares tab, the reward track lists the quest count needed for every previous milestone. You need 26 quests for the outfit. The quest screen notes that the rewards are not exclusive and could appear in the Item Shop again in the future. Until then, quests are the only way to get them.

How to confirm Jack-A-Nape is unlocked

When your 26th quest completes, an “ITEMS ACQUIRED” screen pops up showing the Jack-A-Nape outfit card, tagged “Part of the Carving Corps set,” with an EQUIP button. If you have several unclaimed rewards waiting, the “CLAIM ALL” button in the lobby grants them at once. After that, the outfit appears in your Locker. Progress is tied to your Epic account, so make sure you’re signed in to the same account on every platform you play on.
