Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Pair of Longswords Location (Catacombs of Paris)

A secret chest past the Chamber of Whispers saw-blade gauntlet holds Rose's first set of dual swords.

A secret chest past the Chamber of Whispers saw-blade gauntlet holds Rose’s first set of dual swords.

The Pair of Longswords is the first set of dual swords Rose can pick up in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. It sits in a chest inside a hidden room in the Catacombs of Paris. You can’t see that room until you break a cracked wall at the far end of a corridor full of saw blades and spike pits. The run is short, but the wall is easy to miss if you don’t know where to look.

Quick answer: Leave the Quarry Elevator save room heading west, cross the Chamber of Whispers, then break the cracked wall beside the green glowing rune. The chest behind it holds the Pair of Longswords.

Where the Pair of Longswords chest is

The chest is in a secret chamber in the Catacombs of Paris. The map counts that chamber as part of the Crossroads of the Dead, but you only get into it from the Chamber of Whispers side, through a breakable wall. The easiest place to start is the Quarry Elevator save shrine, just a couple of screens away.

You need to be comfortable with wall jumps, air dashes, and the purple grapple points. The lower corridor of the Chamber of Whispers asks for all three in quick succession.

Route from the Quarry Elevator save room to the chest

Rest at the Catacombs of Paris Quarry Elevator save shrine, then take the exit on the left side of the room. Open the map first if you want to check that the Crossroads of the Dead and the Chamber of Whispers lie to the west.

Enter the Chamber of Whispers and keep moving left through the hallways. Red rotating saw blades and spike walls line this stretch, so time your jumps between them rather than rushing.

Cross the lower spike corridor to the left. Chain wall jumps, air dashes, and the purple grapple points to stay off the spikes.
At the end, leap onto the raised platform beside the left wall. Pause beside the glowing green circular rune, the symbol of Death.
Strike the fractured stone barrier at the ledge’s extreme left. It gives way, opening a passage.

How to confirm you picked up the Pair of Longswords

Opening the chest brings up the weapon’s item card right away. It shows the name PAIR OF LONGSWORDS, the Ordinary quality tag, the Blade Flurry finisher, and a “HOLD TO EQUIP” prompt. Hold the button to equip the swords on the spot, or choose Continue to keep your current weapon.

Your sub-area map should also show Rose inside a small secret room off the Crossroads of the Dead. That room has now been revealed.

The two blades are built for long chains of hits. When one swing connects, you can press Attack again to keep the combo going instead of letting it end. That makes the weapon reward you for staying on a target and punish whiffed swings. The item card’s flavor line argues that two longswords beat one.

Pair of Longswords compared with other tier 1 weapons

Every tier 1 Ordinary weapon below shares the same 25 ATK and 30 stagger power. They differ in attack power and mana per hit.

Pair of LongswordsDual swords202
LongswordOne-handed sword203
Rusted Harpè and AegisSword and shield204
Burnt Sword of FierboisTwo-handed sword255

The Pair of Longswords matches the Longsword and the Rusted Harpè and Aegis on attack power, and sits 5 points behind the Burnt Sword of Fierbois. It has the smallest mana-per-hit figure of the four, at 2. Its real difference is the combo-extending special, which none of the other three share. If you want a weapon that keeps hitting as long as you keep connecting, this is the one to grab from the catacombs.
