War of Words, also called Gift of Gab, is the card-debate mini-game in Where Winds Meet’s Qingzhou region. Each match plays out across three lanes, and every lane guards one of your opponent’s Mind Defenses. You do not need to clear the whole board to win. Breaking a single lane is enough, and that rule shapes every strategy that works here.
Quick answer: Push every attack down the middle lane (Poetics) until that Mind Defense hits zero, then land one more hit on the opponent’s Mind. Defend the other lanes only when you have to.
War of Words win condition: Valour, Poetics, and Discernment
Both debaters start with three Mind Defenses called Valour, Poetics, and Discernment, one per lane. When any one of your opponent’s defenses reaches zero, their Mind is exposed. The next card that gets through that lane wins the match. The same rule applies to you. If one of your defenses falls and your Mind takes damage, you lose.
To read the full rules in-game, talk to Lin Qingwu. She opens the War of Words Rules screen, which covers the card types and the victory condition.

Add to Google Preferences →Gab, Quip, and Maxim cards
You build a deck by picking a School and then mixing three kinds of cards. To play a card in a match, drag it from your hand onto any area of the board. Each card costs Inspiration Points.
| Card type | Role | Limit | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gab | Lane units that deal damage | Played from hand | Hold Your Tongue, Bring It On! |
| Quip | Instant effects | Played from hand | Draw Inspiration, Slick Tongue, One Mouth, Three Tongues |
| Maxim | Powerful one-off effects | Once per match, up to three per deck | Zi Lu, Yan Yuan, Xue Er |
Quip effects cover a wide range. Some silence the opponent and others lower your Inspiration Point costs. Maxim Cards are drawn from The Analects and sit in a column on the left side of the board, separate from your hand. Before each match starts, you can replace cards in your opening hand.

Gift of Gab paths: Bluster, Provocation, Rebuttal, Filibuster
Each deck follows one of four paths, and each path has its own payoff.
| Path | Tactics | Payoff |
|---|---|---|
| Bluster | Blitz | Cheer stacks, then free card plays |
| Provocation | Flanking | Instant Kill after three flanks |
| Rebuttal | Growth | Higher Inspiration recovery and cap |
| Filibuster | Bulwark | Maxim board-clear after Fluff Cards pile up |
Bluster is a strong choice for the opening and middle parts of progression. Each strike against an enemy Inner Bastion grants a Cheer stack, boosting your overall attack power. Once every one of the three Inner Bastions has maximum Cheer, cards periodically become free to play. This works well for a committed push through a single lane.
Provocation lowers the opponent’s Presence each time a Gab Card flanks through “The Hidden Channel.” The third flank instantly kills the opponent’s card. Rebuttal grows your Inspiration Points each time you defeat an enemy Gab Card, building toward one decisive blow. Filibuster turns Gab Card clashes into Fluff Cards that block your Inner Bastions, then cashes them in with a Maxim Card that clears the board.
Qingzhou War of Words opponents and difficulty points
Start with Chu Sui. Talking to her opens a Gift of Eloquence practice match, which is a low-pressure way to learn the board. When you win, the victory screen lists your rewards, which include Gift of Gab Collection and Profession Merit.
Next, open the map and go to Greenshade Village in Qingzhou Eastern Peak. Wen Bida waits there. Interact with him and choose Advanced Practice to pick a difficulty.

| Difficulty | Points |
|---|---|
| Easy | 100 |
| Medium | 140 |
| Hard | 160 |
| Extreme | Not shown |
On Hard, Wen Bida stacks shields on his bastions. On Extreme, he adds stone barriers and silence debuffs. While you are silenced, the game shows “You have been Silenced! You cannot play cards.” and your hand is locked until the debuff ends.
How to beat Wen Bida on Hard and Extreme
The same plan beats both difficulties. Pick one lane and attack only that lane.

On Extreme, stay committed to the center lane when you get silenced. Resume attacking it as soon as you can play cards again instead of switching targets.
A victory screen confirms the win and lists your rewards. That includes Gift of Gab Collection, which pays for the upgrades below.
Upgrade Bluster cards with Gift of Gab Collection
Upgraded cards make Hard and Extreme much easier. Spend the Gift of Gab Collection you earn from wins to level up your deck.

The Bluster Basic Card pool also includes Not My Concern!, Too Attached, Badmouth!, That’s Hilarious!, Nice Bluff!, Draw Inspiration, Unarguable, Mince Your Words, and Kudos to You!. Upgrade these once your two core attackers are leveled.
Oratory Debut during Qingzhou Opening Month
During the Qingzhou Opening Month event, Gift of Gab appears as the Oratory Debut activity. You can bring up to three Maxim Cards into each battle. Oratory Debut is one of the two activities that award Delight Pages, which you spend in the Opening Delights shop on items such as the Bright Bulb Hat and the Dawn of the Academy Hero Title. The event runs until November 13, 2026, so the single-lane Bluster plan above is also the quickest way to collect Delight Pages before the shop closes.
