Enshrouded: How to Get Shroud Wood Early for the Glider (Braelyn Bridge)

Eight pieces of Shroud Wood from the fogged valley under Braelyn Bridge finish the Workbench Glider recipe within minutes of leaving camp.

Navigating to Braelyn Bridge

In Enshrouded, the Glider is usually held up by one ingredient. Animal Fur, String, and Shroud Spores tend to pile up while you explore. Shroud Wood only comes from dead trees inside the Shroud, the deadly fog that covers parts of the map. A patch of those trees sits close to the starting area, in the valley under Braelyn Bridge. You can reach it with a basic axe, collect enough wood in one trip, and get back out before the fog becomes a problem.

Quick answer: Walk north from your first base to Braelyn Bridge. Before you cross, take the slope on the right down into the fog. Chop the grey dead trees there until you have 8 Shroud Wood.

Glider recipe: What the Workbench asks for

You craft the Glider at the Workbench. It is a level 5, Uncommon tool. The recipe is learned automatically when you pick up any one of its materials or the Workbench itself, so it may already be in your menu before you have everything. The full recipe uses four materials:

MaterialAmountWhere it comes from
Shroud Wood8Dead trees in the Shroud
Animal Fur2Hunting animals
String2Manual Crafting
Shroud Spores2Fell foes in Springlands and the Revelwood Shroud

You can make String yourself from your inventory, and the recipe unlocks once you pick up Plant Fiber, Paper Reed, or Raw Wool. Shroud Spores drop from the Fell creatures that wander through the fog. That means the trip for Shroud Wood can also cover your spores if you are short.

This route starts at your first base near Cinder Vault, which appears on the map as “HOME level 1.” The trip is short. Most of the risk comes from wandering too far from the ramp once you are in the fog.

Equip an axe before you leave camp. The basic Axe is enough, and you get its recipe as soon as you pick up Stone. Carry a weapon as well, because Fell enemies live in the fog.
Open the map and set a waypoint on the main quest, Find the Sleeping Survivor. The marker leads you in the same direction as Braelyn Bridge, so you can follow it without guessing.

Follow the stone path north from camp. It passes some old stone ruins and ends at Braelyn Bridge.

Do not cross the bridge. Turn right and take the dirt slope that runs down under it into the valley. When the “ENSHROUDED” warning and its countdown timer appear on screen, you are in the fog.

Look for the bare, grey dead trees in the fog and cut them down with your axe. Each tree drops Shroud Wood, with Twigs mixed in.

Walk over the drops to pick them up. Felled wood is not collected automatically, so anything you leave on the ground is lost to you.
Once you have at least 8 Shroud Wood, climb back up the slope and leave the fog. The Shroud timer resets once you are out.

You cannot fast travel while you are in the Shroud. Stay near the slope so you can always walk out before the timer reaches zero.

Crafting the Glider: How to confirm it worked

Go back to the Workbench at your base and select the Glider. Each material count should now match or exceed what the recipe needs, including Shroud Wood at 8 or more, and the craft option becomes available. Crafting is instant. To test the Glider, jump from a high spot and open it while you are in the air. You will glide forward instead of falling, and your stamina drains as you fly.

The Crafting menu in Enshrouded shows the Workbench recipe under Essentials, needing String and Wood Logs.

Enshrouded Shroud Wood, Glider, and axe values

These are the figures for the items involved in this trip. Shroud Wood is a Common, item level 5 material. It stacks to 250, so one inventory slot holds far more than a single Glider needs.

All four materials stack to 250. The Glider you craft from them has these stats:

Any axe can cut Shroud trees. Here are the first three tiers available early in the game:

AxeItem levelCutting damageUnlocked by
Axe111Picking up Stone
Scrappy Axe517Picking up Metal Scraps
Copper Axe1025Picking up Copper Bars

The basic Axe has no recipe station and is ready almost immediately. The Scrappy Axe and Copper Axe are made at the Blacksmith and must be crafted under a roof. Both carry the Lumberjack 1 perk. All three swing at the same 0.774-second attack speed, so a higher-tier axe brings each tree down in fewer hits. That matters when the Shroud timer is counting down. Still, the starting Axe is all you need for 8 Shroud Wood. Once the Glider is crafted, the Braelyn Bridge valley is still a reliable spot whenever you need more.
