Parting Hooks arts

Parting Hooks has a base art, a Tempering art, a Power Surge art, and four more arts that unlock as you raise the weapon’s level. The level-gated arts come from upgrading the weapon, which works through the forge and weapon upgrade system.

Lv. 2: Moderately extends the duration of the [Counter] stance.
Lv. 3: Greatly extends the duration of the [Counter] stance.”
CounteroffensiveWeapon level 15“A successful [Counter] increases Attack for 10 seconds. During this time, attacks against shield-bearing enemies instantly break their shields.”
Divine Beast BindWeapon level 25“[Counter] can block and counter Black-Flash Attacks from any enemy and can be followed by [Counter Follow-Up].”

What Parting Hooks is good for

Everything in this kit runs through [Counter]. Press Block and Heavy Attack together and the hooks drop into a Guard Stance that blocks and counters enemy melee attacks. Foretelling Strike, the Tempering art, removes the extra input in one case. Parry an enemy’s Blue-flash Attack with [Block], and [Counter] triggers on its own. The Guard Stance and Sha-Chi breakdown explains the stance system and the Sha-Chi Essence that Peerless Hook spends.

Shields are vulnerable as well. When the weapon reaches weapon level 15, a successful [Counter] activates Counteroffensive, increasing Attack for 10 seconds. For the duration, your attacks instantly destroy the shields carried by shield-bearing enemies. This pairs with the weapon’s noted ability to break shields and the game’s broader Guard Break system.
