Soul climbing over mossy rocks, Phantom Blade Zero

Quick answer: Thunder Spear is a Phantom Edge found in Pangzhen, near the Ancestral Shrine Square bell, as a reward or pickup in the world. The map below shows its pin.

Thunder Spear is a secondary weapon in Phantom Blade Zero. Like every Phantom Edge, you use it with the Phantom Edges button, and each use costs Remnant Spark. Its arts chain lightning between enemies, build Paralysis, and add a set of thrusts and a diving shockwave.

“A long spear that rose to fame alongside Chang Hong, one of the Order’s Envoys. It draws lightning from all directions, channeling it into thunderous force.”

The lore line names Chang Hong, one of the Order’s Envoys, as its former owner:

“A keen spear once wielded by Chang Hong, wreathed in crackling lightning.”

Thunder Spear arts

Thunder Spear has five arts. Cascading Thunder is its Tempering art. The other four unlock as you raise the Phantom Edge’s level, which you do through the forge and weapon upgrades.

ArtUnlocksEffect
Cascading ThunderTempering art“When Thunder Spear hits an enemy, lightning chains to up to two nearby enemies.”
Thunder Spear ThrustWeapon level 5“After dashing forward with [Run]+[Dodge], press [Phantom Edges] to perform an aerial thrust.”
Wrath of ThunderWeapon level 10“Lv. 1: Slightly increases Lightning damage and Paralysis buildup rate.
Lv. 2: Moderately increases Lightning damage and Paralysis buildup rate.
Lv. 3: Greatly increases Lightning damage and Paralysis buildup rate.”
Reverse ThrustWeapon level 15“Press [Block]+[Phantom Edges] to perform a [Reverse Thrust].”
Thunder DescendsWeapon level 25“Press [Phantom Edges] at the end of a combo to launch into the air, then dive to the ground with spear and body as one, unleashing a massive shockwave.”

Thunder Spear Thrust starts from a forward dash, so it helps to be comfortable with dodging before you rely on it.

What Thunder Spear is good for

Thunder Spear works well against groups: each strike from Cascading Thunder sends lightning to as many as two nearby enemies. At weapon level 10, Wrath of Thunder boosts Lightning damage and Paralysis buildup, complementing other ways to increase damage.

The remaining arts give you more ways to attack. Thunder Spear Thrust (level 5) adds an aerial thrust, Reverse Thrust (level 15) adds a reverse thrust, and Thunder Descends (level 25) ends a combo with a diving shockwave.
