Quick answer: On Meigu Lake, the Blizzard Blademaster stands on the frozen water near Whiteshadow’s Fall. His ice attacks hit hard and can immobilize you. Defeat him to make Puppet No. 99 appear.

Blizzard Blademaster at a glance

Blizzard Blademaster has a large health pool and a Sha-Chi bar that changes size with difficulty. You can take him on with any number of masks. No quest gate stands in the way.

The snowy, icy arena centers on a wreck in the middle of the frozen lake. Rocks line its edge, and a rope bridge crosses overhead. As the battle progresses, sections of the floor become deep blue ice.

He talks while he fights. Expect to hear “Can you defeat this body of mine?”, “Your skill is impressive” and “Watch closely. I’ll strike only once!”

Where to find him

He is at the far end of the frozen lake on Meigu Lake, next to the wreck at Whiteshadow’s Fall. Near Frozen Lake Dock the lake is open water with floes. Further along, it is solid ice.

The approach is risky: his cutscene may begin as you near the wreck, before you reach the bell. If so, the fight starts without a checkpoint. Follow this approach in order:

Head to the far end of the frozen lake on Meigu Lake, toward the wreck at Whiteshadow’s Fall. Move carefully as you get close, because the boss cutscene can start early.
If you can reach it before the fight, ring the Whiteshadow’s Fall bell. It hangs from a post on the wreck’s deck. After you ring it, dying sends you back there.

Rest at the bell so your gourd is full before you walk into the arena. The fight starts when the “BLIZZARD BLADEMASTER” bar appears on screen.

Blizzard Blademaster’s moveset and attacks

His attacks lean on ice, plus one red-flash blow and a leap.

Hit that freezes you in ice

His first hit may seal Soul in pale blue ice, leaving you frozen as he continues his assault. On Pathbreaker, this can ruin the opening: you could die in about 26 seconds without dealing him any damage.

Crescent of ice from the blade

A narrow, elongated crescent of ice rises in a sweeping arc from his sword.

Close-range burst of ice from the ground

A jagged spray of ice erupts from the floor near him. It only reaches close range.

Spreading ring of ice on the floor

He delivers this attack while saying “Watch closely. I’ll strike only once!” A broad, level disc of ice spreads across the ground around him, accompanied by a burst of red sparks.

Strike marked by a red flash

A red flash appears on Soul, with streaks shooting outward as the blow lands. Dodge when you see red.

Tips for the Blizzard Blademaster fight

This is a very hard fight, and it takes a long time. On Wayfarer, about 188 seconds of fighting from full health can remove just 8.75% of his bar. On Pathbreaker, the freezing opener can end a try in about 26 seconds before he takes any damage.

  • Before each attempt, rest at Whiteshadow’s Fall.
  • Ring the Whiteshadow’s Fall bell before the cutscene can pull you in.
  • Carry Longevity Tonic.
  • Dodge whenever a red flash appears on Soul.
  • If you keep losing, leave and come back after upgrading your weapons.

What you get for defeating him

Blizzard Blademaster drops the Whiteshadow weapon. Defeating him also makes Puppet No. 99 appear for Secrets at the Heart of the Lake. That is how you know the fight is truly over.
