Quick answer: Hellwalker is the hardest mode open from the start. Compared with Pathbreaker, blocked hits cost about 1.5x more Sha-Chi, ordinary enemies have 25% more health, and some boss attacks get harder. Deflect, and raise Sha-Chi and healing first.
This advice comes from how the mode’s rules change. It gives no per-boss timings for the harder attacks. The game calls the mode “The ultimate trial. Enemies strike without mercy, adapt without warning, and hold nothing back.”

What changes on Hellwalker
| Value | Pathbreaker | Hellwalker |
|---|---|---|
| Damage to your Sha-Chi bar | x0.66 | x1.0 |
| Ordinary enemy health | x0.8 | x1.0 |
| Elite and boss health | Same | Same |
| Enemy attack damage | x1.0 | x1.0 |
| Perfect deflect window | 8 frames | 8 frames |
| Enemy stagger once Guard-Broken | 4 seconds | 4 seconds |
| Your stagger when your guard breaks | 3 seconds | 3 seconds |
| Enemy and boss levels | Same | Same |
| Boss attacks | Base | Some replaced by harder versions |
A hit deals no more damage than on Pathbreaker. Your guard takes the extra strain: the same blocked hit costs roughly 1.5 times the Sha-Chi. See the guard stance breakdown for details on that meter.
Your perfect-deflect window remains 8 frames, so the timing you’ve learned for a given attack still applies. Boss HP is unchanged across modes, making the values in the boss list valid here too. For ordinary foes, consult the Hellwalker-specific HP column in the enemy list.
Expect enemies to use free-form attacks more often than fixed combo strings, and in a group expect the one attacking you to change every 2 to 4 seconds. Rhythms learned on easier modes may not hold here.

What to bring
Since your guard drains faster, focus on Sha-Chi and healing first.

- Sha-Chi Amber: “Permanently increases maximum Sha-Chi by 10%.”
- Resonance Talisman: Sha-Chi goes up by 15%, or 25% at +1.
- Jewel’s Knot: HP goes up by 25% at +1.
- Longevity Tonic: “Restores all HP.”
- An upgraded Healing Gourd.
- An upgraded main weapon. See how to upgrade weapons.

Train these abilities as well:
- Endless Renewal Lv. 1: “Assassinations and Executions restore HP and Sha-Chi.”
- Blood Remedy: “Defeating enemies has a chance to restore Medicines.”
- Flow Like Water: “Blocking and dodging do not interrupt the current combo.”
- Healing Art: gives you one more Medicine use.
Harder boss attacks
On Hellwalker, some boss attacks are replaced by harder versions, not just added on top of the old moveset. The bosses affected include The Hunt, Peng Meng, Bai Chilian, Chang Hong, and Wan Jun.
A move you learned on a lower mode can look different here. Watch a boss’s pattern before you commit to a response.
Can you switch off Hellwalker
Yes. Hellwalker does not lock you in. Outside combat, open SYSTEM, go to the Game tab, and choose Select Difficulty, as the difficulty modes guide shows. Then press T and Confirm. During combat, the row reads “Cannot perform this action during combat”. That means you can drop to another mode for one fight and come back afterward.

No achievement is tied to difficulty. Hellwalker is not required for 66 Days either, since any completed mode is enough to unlock it. 66 Days uses the same enemy numbers as Hellwalker, with a 6-frame perfect deflect window, a limit of 66 deaths and a few extra boss behaviours.
