The exact level, key bind, and whisper timing that make meditation actually progress your Shikai or Resurrección.

Meditation in VV Ultimatum is not a relaxation button. It is the gate that opens the Inner World, and it works differently depending on your race. Shinigami meditate to chase their Shikai, while Hollow meditate to unlock Resurrección. The key bind, the level requirement, and the timing all change based on which path you are on, and getting any of them wrong just puts your character to sleep.

Quick answer: As a Shinigami, grind to Level 25, then press L to meditate. As a Hollow, equip your active weapon and press M. Meditation only progresses when a whisper appears, so meditate the instant one shows above your hotbar.

Meditation key binds and unlock requirements by race

The two races use different keys and different unlock conditions. Pressing the wrong key or meditating before you meet the requirement does nothing useful.

How to meditate as a Shinigami

Meditation stays locked until you hit Level 25. You get there by clearing Main Story Quests and Soul Society Missions from NPCs around Soul Society Outskirts, The Marsh, Arctic Plains, and Hueco Mundo. Hold C to activate Sense if you cannot find a quest giver nearby.

Grind quests and missions until you reach Level 25. This is the hard requirement, and nothing happens if you press the meditate key before that.
Press L to meditate for the first time. A green aura should rise from your character. That aura is your confirmation that the Shikai process has started.
Watch for Spirit Whispers, which are short one-liners that flash above your HP bar. Each whisper is a timed window. Press L the moment one appears to earn Shikai EXP. Letting whispers pass without responding only drags out the grind.

Note: If meditating during a whisper simply puts your character to sleep instead of pulling you into a white void, you do not have enough Shikai EXP yet. Go back to quests and missions, then wait for the next whisper.

How to meditate as a Hollow

The Hollow meditation loop runs on active combat, not passive leveling. Running around the map does nothing for it. Fighting Hollows, attacking enemies, and joining missions, invasions, and PvP all feed your progress, and whispers show up most often during missions and invasions.

Equip your active weapon and press M to meditate. Start this habit early, even while you are still leveling, because it builds the foundation for every later stage.
Watch for whispers shown as yellow text above your skill hotbar. The instant one appears, stop and meditate. Ignoring whispers is the most common way players stall their own Resurrección.
Answer the Inner Hollow when it asks what you fear most. Every answer counts as correct. The prompt only lets you remove one weapon type from your future pool, so pick the weapon you never want or choose to remove nothing.

If you keep falling asleep during meditation, that means it is not effective yet and you need more progress from fighting. Listen for the “Hey, listen” audio cue too, which signals a Vasto Lorde NPC has spawned in the overworld and can shorten the grind.

Why meditation puts you to sleep instead of teleporting

The sleep animation is the game telling you the threshold has not been met. It is the single most common point of confusion, and the fix is always the same. Gather more progress, then meditate again when a whisper triggers.

What meditation leads to

Once you have enough progress and meditate during a whisper, you leave the overworld behind. For Shinigami, that first successful meditation drops you into a white void with the Bells Puzzle, where you follow blue orbs to bells and answer riddles or fight NPCs. Later meditations carry you into the Inner World, which starts fogged until you reach Level 35 and clear a story quest, and finally to the Shikai NPC and the three-phase boss fight.

For Hollow, repeated meditation gradually builds your Inner World. Follow the red eyes on every visit, and each successful trip adds buildings until the world is complete. When it is finished, the red eyes lead to your Inner Hollow and the three-phase Resurrección trial.

You can jump into VV: ULTIMATUM on Roblox to run through this firsthand. Whichever race you play, the rule is the same. Meet the requirement, meditate only when the whisper appears, and keep going until the void or Inner World replaces the sleep animation.
