The Grim Sprite is a Mythic companion in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 that punishes anyone who shoots you. The moment you take damage, the attacker gets marked and lit up through walls for a few seconds, so an ambush turns into a clear target. There is no dedicated “Grim Sprite chest,” though. It only comes out of Sprite Chests, and the base drop rate is brutally low.
Quick answer: Open as many Sprite Chests as possible. Raid an Epic Vault to crack three Sprite Chests at once, or a Rare Vault for at least one, and farm during Mastery Mondays for a higher Mythic chance.

Grim Sprite drop rate and where it comes from
The base Grim Sprite is found rarely in Sprite Chests at a drop rate of 0.000098%. That sits at the very bottom of the rarity pool, far below the other Mythic Sprites, so you cannot rely on chance from a handful of containers. The only realistic path is volume, which means opening as many Sprite Chests in a single run as you can.
Its three special variants share the same marking ability and drop from Sprite Chests as well, at even lower rates.
| Variant | Rarity | Sprite Chest drop | Extra effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grim Sprite | Mythic | 0.000098% | Base ability only |
| Gold Grim Sprite | Special | 0.0000012% | Bonus XP from eliminations |
| Gummy Grim Sprite | Special | 0.0000006% | +20% Sprite Dust on extraction |
| Galaxy Grim Sprite | Special | 0.0000004% | Base ability only |

Add to Google Preferences →Best chests to farm the Grim Sprite
Vaults are the most efficient source of Sprite Chests because they hand them over without you having to scour the map. The number you get scales with the vault tier.
| Source | Sprite Chests | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rare Vault | At least 1 guaranteed | Lower contest, safer entry |
| Epic Vault | 3 at once | Highest yield, heavily fought over |
| Sprite Hunt Rift Anomaly | Buried chests marked on map | Digging guarantees a Special Sprite drop |
The Sprite Hunt Rift Anomaly is worth chasing for the special variants. When it triggers, buried Sprite Chests appear on your map, and digging one up guarantees a Special Sprite. That gives you a much better shot at pulling a Gold, Gummy, or Galaxy Grim without grinding through contested vaults.
Boost your odds with Mastery Mondays
Epic Games runs a recurring modifier called Mastery Mondays. Every Monday, starting at 9 AM ET and running for a full 24 hours, the loot math shifts so Mythic Sprites are noticeably more common across the map. Lining up your Sprite Chest farming with that window is the single biggest improvement you can make to a drop rate this small.
Tip: Stack the methods. Hit a busy Monday, drop near an Epic Vault for three Sprite Chests, and keep an eye on your HUD for the Sprite Hunt Rift Anomaly during the same match.

What the Grim Sprite does and how it scales
With the Grim Sprite equipped, anyone who lands a shot on you is instantly marked for a set duration. Their silhouette shows through walls and builds, so you always know where the damage came from. The marker duration grows each time you level the Sprite up through containers and eliminations.
| Mastery Level | Marker duration |
|---|---|
| Level 1 | 3 seconds |
| Level 2 | 3.5 seconds |
| Level 3 | 4 seconds |
| Level 4 | 4.5 seconds |
| Level 5 | 5 seconds |
At max level, five seconds of wall tracking is a long time in a close-range fight, which is why it carries so much value in late-game circles.
How to confirm you got it
Finding the Grim Sprite in a match is only the first step. You have to survive to extraction for it to register in your collection permanently. Once it is unlocked, you can summon it in future matches at no Sprite Dust cost, and it will appear in your loadout ready to equip. If you go down before extracting, the pull does not save, so prioritize getting out alive after the drop.
