The v41.30 update adds the Gizmo that surfaces a buried Chest guaranteed to hold a Sprite you don’t own yet.

Chasing the last few Sprites in Chapter 7 Season 3 has meant cracking open random Chests and hoping for something new. The Lucky Locator Gizmo removes that guesswork. It points you toward a buried Chest that is guaranteed to hold a Sprite missing from your collection, and it arrives with the final major patch of the season.

Quick answer: The Lucky Locator releases with the Fortnite v41.30 update on July 30, 2026. Earn it through the Sprite Mastery progression track, the same route that gives you the Sprite Locator, with Bonus Goals quests and Sprite Dust as secondary sources.

Release time: July 30, 2026 at 4:00 AM PT / 7:00 AM ET / 12:00 PM BST

What the Lucky Locator Gizmo does

The Lucky Locator is an Extraction Gizmo that sits in your pickaxe slot when you drop into a match. When you trigger it, it tracks down a buried Chest somewhere on the island, and that Chest is guaranteed to contain a Sprite you have not collected yet. It does not raise the rarity of what you find. It only makes sure the Chest holds a variant you are still missing rather than a duplicate.

That single rule makes it the most direct way to fill collection gaps. If you are hunting a specific variant such as a Cube, Gem, or the extremely rare Quack Zero Point Sprite, the Locator points you at a Chest carrying something new instead of leaving it to the normal loot pool.

Like the other Gizmos, the Lucky Locator cannot be traded to a squadmate or dropped on the ground, and it persists on your account between matches. Your entire Gizmo stash expires when Chapter 7 Season 3 ends, so there is no reason to hoard it.

When the Lucky Locator releases

How to earn the Lucky Locator Gizmo

The main way to obtain the Lucky Locator is the Sprite Mastery progression track. It unlocks at milestone checkpoints on that track, the same system that hands out the Sprite Locator. To move the track forward, you level a Sprite to its max level and then extract it, which locks in its Mastery Rank and pushes you toward the next reward.

Beyond the Mastery track, a few other routes can supply Gizmos throughout the season. Use the table below to see where each one comes from.

Earning methodHow it works
Sprite Mastery trackReach milestone rewards by extracting max-level Sprites
Bonus Goals questsComplete daily and bonus session objectives
Sprite DustSpend accumulated Dust on Gizmos

Tip: Extracting Sprites at a higher level pays out more Sprite Dust, and Quack Snacks grant +1 Level for 1,500 Gold each, which shortens the grind toward Mastery Rank. Log in and check your Sprite Mastery progress before the patch so you are close to a milestone when the Locator becomes available.

How to use the Lucky Locator in a match

During a match, hold Triangle (or Y on Xbox) to open the Gizmo Wheel and select the Lucky Locator. Equipping it temporarily replaces your Pickaxe in your loadout.
Trigger the Gizmo to reveal the buried Chest on your map and screen. The Chest is marked for you and points to a Sprite you have not collected.
Follow the marker to the dig spot, swap back to your Pickaxe, and dig up the Chest. Opening it adds the new Sprite to your collection.

Note: Extraction Gizmos are consumed on use, so each Lucky Locator is a one-time trigger. Make sure you can reach and dig the Chest safely before committing, and pair it with a Portable Extractor in the same match if you want to bank the Sprite immediately after finding it.

Lucky Locator vs. Sprite Locator

The two Gizmos are easy to mix up because both surface a private buried Chest. The difference is what the Chest is guaranteed to hold. The Sprite Locator can hand you any Sprite, including a duplicate. The Lucky Locator always contains a Sprite you are missing.

GizmoWhat the Chest contains
Sprite LocatorA random buried Sprite Chest that may be a duplicate
Lucky LocatorA buried Chest guaranteed to hold a Sprite you don’t own

With the season still running after the July 30 patch, there is time to actually put the Lucky Locator to work rather than receiving it in the final days. Push your Sprite Mastery track now, and the moment the Gizmo drops you can head straight for the Sprites still missing from your collection.
