The Lucky Locator is an Extraction Gizmo built for one job: finding Sprites you are still missing. When you fire it, it marks a buried Sprite Chest on the map, and that chest is guaranteed to contain a Sprite that isn’t already in your collection. If duplicate pulls have been blocking you from the rare stuff, this is the tool that ends the grind.
Quick answer: Unlock the Lucky Locator as a free reward on the Sprite Mastery track by mastering 55 Sprites before Chapter 7 Season 3 ends. Equip it from the Gizmo wheel in your pickaxe slot and hold fire to ping a Sprite Chest holding a Sprite you don’t own.

What the Lucky Locator does
Once equipped, the Lucky Locator sends out a pulse and pins a buried Sprite Chest, much like the standard Sprite Locator. The difference is the payout. A normal Sprite Locator can lead you to a Sprite you already have. The Lucky Locator will not. Its chest always holds a Sprite that is missing from your collection.
Because it draws only from the Sprites you haven’t found, your odds shift as your collection grows. The smaller your pool of undiscovered Sprites gets, the better your chances of it handing you a Legendary or Mythic. That makes it the most direct route to hard-to-get Sprites like the Cube Sprites or the John Wick Sprite.

The Lucky Locator is a free Sprite Mastery reward. To claim it, you need to master 55 Sprites before Chapter 7 Season 3 wraps up. This is the only confirmed way to get it right now. Epic could add it to Daily Quests in a later update, but that hasn’t happened, so the Mastery track is your path.

Mastering a Sprite has two steps. First you level it to Level 5, then you extract it from the match. Sprite levels reset if you lose the Sprite, so protect the ones you’re carrying and extract them before you get eliminated. There is no shortcut here and no way to buy the Gizmo, which also means you can only hold one Lucky Locator at a time under the current update.
Note: The Lucky Locator is account-bound. Nobody can loot it off you if they knock you out. It stays yours between matches until you actually use it.
How to equip and use it

One warning worth repeating: if you ping a chest with the Lucky Locator and then get eliminated, you lose the Gizmo entirely. Since you only hold one, use it in a match where you can safely reach the chest.
Limits and edge cases
A few rules shape what the Lucky Locator can actually give you. It won’t pull Sprites that haven’t been released yet, so anything still waiting to enter the loot pool is off the table until it officially goes live.
| Situation | What you get |
|---|---|
| You’re still missing Sprites | A guaranteed Sprite you don’t own; better odds at rarer Sprites as your pool shrinks |
| You’ve collected every available Sprite | A duplicate, prioritizing Sprites you haven’t yet mastered |
| A Sprite hasn’t been added to the loot pool | Nothing; unreleased Sprites like the Gem Sprites or Ironmouse Sprite can’t drop early |
That last row matters if you’re chasing a brand-new Sprite. Wait until it’s officially in the game, then spend your Lucky Locator to skip the luck entirely. Until then, keep pushing your Sprite Mastery progress so the Gizmo is ready the moment you need it.
