Practical Basketball: Best Jumpshots for Every Height and 3PT Rating

The right jumpshot animation for each height bracket, with the 3PT rating you need to make it work.

The right jumpshot animation for each height bracket, with the 3PT rating you need to make it work.

Your jumpshot animation in Practical Basketball decides how fast you release, how much late contest you shrug off, and how easy it is to green. The best pick changes with your build’s height and your 3-point rating, so a guard at 5’9″ and a center at 7’0″ should never run the same shot.

Quick answer: Run Zarr Chef under 6’4″ with 90+ 3PT, Damion Douglas from 6’5″ to 6’9″ with 85+ 3PT, Vasska Doubek at 6’10″–6’11” with 80 3PT, and Trevor Newman at 7’0″+ regardless of build.

Best jumpshot by height and 3PT rating

Match your build to the row that fits your height, then check the 3PT requirement before you equip it. If your rating falls short of the number listed, drop to the backup shot for that bracket.

Guards, 5’9″ to 6’4″

Zarr Chef is the Stephen Curry animation, and it wins for smaller builds because of its speed and unpredictable release. That combination lets you fire before a defender recovers, which is what guards live on. Keep it locked in as long as your 3PT rating sits at 90 or higher.

If your rating drops to 89 or below, switch to Jumpshot 11 instead. It fits guards who have not yet capped their shooting, so use it as a stepping stone until you push past 90 and can move back to Zarr Chef.

Wings, 6’5″ to 6’9″

Damion Douglas is the Luka Doncic animation and the strongest all-around option for this range. It cuts down on late contest, which makes it the top choice for anyone playing off the ball and catching open looks. You need at least 85 3PT to run it.

Players who create their own shot off the dribble should look at Duke Kupp instead. It suits an ISO-heavy style at 6’8″–6’9″, while Damion Douglas stays the better pick when you spend most of your time spotting up or moving without the ball.

Bigs, 6’10” to 6’11”

Vasska Doubek carries an extremely high arc that is hard for defenders to contest, which is exactly what a stretch big wants. It only needs an 80 3PT rating, so it stays reachable for forwards and centers who step out to the perimeter.

If you would rather build a custom animation, Phoenix Cooper is the base to work from at this height. Use it when you are shaping your own shot rather than running a preset.

Centers, 7’0″ and taller

Trevor Newman is the Victor Wembanyama animation, and for 7-footers it is the clear pick across every build. It combines speed, a smooth motion, and a high arc, so there is no reason to run anything else at this height.

Slasher jumpshots for low 3PT builds

Builds focused on driving with a lower 3PT rating do not need a full sharpshooter animation. Rudy Justice, the Paul George shot, and Demarcus Jackson, the LeBron James shot, both work well for slashers who still want a usable jumper when defenses sag off.

Jumpshots to avoid

Some animations in the shop are not worth equipping on any build. Skip Jumpshot 1, Jumpshot 2, Zachary Mayback, and James Marion Jr. They do not compete with the recommended shots for your height.

Once you equip a shot that clears its 3PT requirement, you should see cleaner, more consistent green releases in practice. Lock your animation to your current height and rating, then upgrade the pick as your 3-point number climbs into the next tier.
