Fortnite Sprite Hunt Rift Anomaly: How to Get a Guaranteed Special Sprite

The Sprite Hunt is a Rift Anomaly in Fortnite that turns an otherwise luck-based grind into a sure thing. When it fires, a handful of buried Sprite Chests appear on the map, and every one of them holds a Special Sprite. That makes it the most reliable way to add a Special variant to your collection during a match.

Quick answer: When the Sprite Hunt Anomaly triggers, head to a marked buried Sprite Chest, swing your Pickaxe at it to dig it out, and open it. You are guaranteed a Special Sprite, though the specific one is random.

When the Sprite Hunt Anomaly appears

Rift Anomalies are events that have a chance to trigger after a Storm phase begins, and the Sprite Hunt is one of them. It can pop up at different points in a normal match, but it is not guaranteed to show up on its own. Each anomaly has a set chance to happen, so you may go several games without seeing it.

The reliable window is a Power Hour that switches the anomaly on. During events such as the Web Shooter Power Hours and the Shiny Sprite Power Hours, the Sprite Hunt is enabled throughout matches, so it is far more likely to occur while you play. Outside those windows, treat it as a bonus rather than something you can force.

How to open a buried Sprite Chest

Once the anomaly starts, between 3 and 5 buried Sprite Chests appear across the island. The exact count varies each time, so plan a route that lets you reach as many as possible before the chests are claimed by other players.

Check your map for the marked Sprite Chest locations that appear when the anomaly triggers, then move to the nearest one.
Stand over the buried chest and swing your Pickaxe to bring it up to the surface. This is the same digging action you use with a Lucky Locator or a standard Sprite Locator chest.
Open the surfaced chest to claim your Special Sprite. The Sprite you receive is chosen at random from the active pool, so you cannot pick a specific one.

Note: A Sprite only becomes part of your permanent collection after you extract it. Equip it and use a Portable Extractor or reach an Extraction Site before you are eliminated, or the Sprite is lost.

Which Special Sprites can drop

Buried Sprite Chests from this anomaly only give Special Sprites, and only ones currently in the loot pool. There have been occasional cases where unreleased variants slipped out early, but you should not count on that. The variants you can normally pull are below.

Special SpriteStatus
GoldActive
GummyActive
GalaxyActive
HolofoilActive
CubeActive
GemNot currently in the loot pool

Quack Sprites are the one group you cannot get here. They are earned only through Sprite Mastery Rewards, so no buried chest will ever produce them.

What the guarantee does and does not cover

The guarantee applies to getting a Special Sprite, not to a specific type or rarity. Rare Special Sprites show up far more often, while Legendary and Mythic ones are much rarer pulls. Opening more chests improves your chances of a higher rarity, but every chest still rolls independently.

If you are hunting a particular Mythic like the Special Grim variant, the Sprite Hunt is still the steadiest source because it removes the empty pulls you get from regular containers. Combine it with a Power Hour that keeps the anomaly active, and you get the best realistic odds this system offers.
