The Apple AirPods is the next generation wireless Bluetooth device. It’s smart enough to connect & disconnect with your iPhone automatically. The device can even pause the music when you unplug it out of the ear. However, like all things software, the AirPods can sometimes act weirdly too.

After the iOS 12 Beta, many users have reported about AirPods not pausing the music automatically when plugged out of the ear. When users plug one AirPod out, the music continues to play in another. And when both AirPods are plugged out, the music playback switches to the iPhone’s speakers.

The problem isn’t specific to iOS 12 beta users though. People have had similar issues with AirPods on iOS 11 as well. Either way, the fix to the problem is the same for both iOS versions – unpair and pair it back to your iPhone.

Multiple users have suggested that unpairing AirPods from your iPhone, and then pairing it back fixes the AirPods problem with music auto pause & play not working.

If that unpairing doesn’t work, try restarting both your AirPods and your iPhone.
