Sand is a Mythic-rarity unit in Anime Expeditions modeled after Crocodile from One Piece. It builds a sandstorm on the map that keeps growing until it hits full size, then resets, and it punishes anything trapped inside with damage plus stacking Poison. It arrived alongside the Update 2.0 roster expansion tied to the Summer Siege content.
Quick answer: Pull Sand from the Summer Capsule (a 0.25% chance per capsule, bought for 100 Sand Dollars at the Tidal Siege Event shop), then evolve it into Sand (Alligator) using 25x Sprite (Green), 25x Sprite (Purple), 1x Sprite (Rainbow), 1x Desert Fruit, and 10,000 Gold.

How to get Sand from the Summer Capsule
Sand is one of four units locked behind the Summer Capsule, a limited-time item sold at the Tidal Siege Event shop for 100 Sand Dollars each. Capsules can also hand out skins and other units, including the Head Captain character, so opening them in bulk is the path to filling out your collection.

Note: The drop rate does not improve per capsule, so consistent Sand Dollar farming is the only reliable way forward. Keep buying and opening until the Mythic lands.

Sand Dollars are the event currency that pays for capsules and evolution materials. Three sources feed your supply.
| Source | What it gives |
|---|---|
| Tidal Siege quests | A steady trickle of Sand Dollars earned by playing the event mode. |
| Summer Fish Fest quests | The strongest source, worth over 20,000 Sand Dollars. Most missions ask you to fish for units. |
| Summer Calendar | Daily login rewards that include Sand Dollars, Trait Crystals, and Equipment Rerolls. |
How to evolve Sand into Sand (Alligator)
Evolving Sand turns it into Sand (Alligator), which unlocks a new attack and an active ability. Gather every item below before starting the evolution.
| Material | Amount |
|---|---|
| Sprite (Green) | 25 |
| Sprite (Purple) | 25 |
| Sprite (Rainbow) | 1 |
| Desert Fruit | 1 |
| Gold | 10,000 |
All the Sprites are crafted from Grey Sprites, and the Gold comes from clearing stages across most game modes. Desert Fruit is the one gated pickup, sold at the Summer Fish Fest Event shop for 10,000 Sand Dollars. The same store stocks the Cloud Disc used to evolve Rainman into Rainman (Forecast), so plan your currency spending accordingly.

Sand (Alligator) abilities and passives
The evolved form is a Terra Physical unit built around area denial. Desert Storm keeps expanding on its own, Golden Hook scales its Poison, and Ground Eruption converts the storm’s size into hard crowd control. The full kit works as follows.
Desert Storm (passive)
- A storm forms at the unit’s location.
- It grows 5% in size every second, up to a 100% cap.
- Enemies inside take the Sandstorm effect.
- After holding 100% for 10 seconds, the storm resets to 10% and rebuilds.
Golden Hook (passive)
- Poison deals 20% more damage per tick.
- Against enemies inside Desert Storm or Ground Eruption, Poison deals 100% more damage per tick.
- When Desert Storm hits 100% range, an extra Poison stack is applied while the enemy stays inside.
Ground Eruption (active ability)
- On activation, Desert Storm grows 10% per second instead, up to 100%.
- The unit stops attacking while the ability is active.
- Re-triggering before 100% range Slows enemies in the eruption by 65% and deals 125% of current damage to all enemies in range.
- Reaching 100% range Stuns enemies for 5 seconds and deals 200% of current damage to everything in range, on a 100-second local cooldown.
The reward for letting the storm fully charge is the Stun-and-nuke payoff, so timing Ground Eruption around a full-size Desert Storm gives the highest damage window. Its equipment is the Poison Hook, which leans into the same Poison scaling.

Best trait for Sand
Unbound is the strongest trait to roll onto Sand. It slots the unit into the current meta as a solid area-control and Poison carry, sitting in A tier once evolved into Sand (Alligator).
