Where every DPS, Tank, and Support unit lands in the current Update 2.5 meta, with the placements that matter explained.

Anime Story 2 keeps a large unit roster across Story, Tower, Nature Tower, Raids, and Secret Boss content, and only a slice of that roster carries serious weight in the current meta. Knowing which units to slot, which to bench, and which to auto-sell is the fastest way to clear harder content without wasting summons. The ranking below sorts units into damage, tank, and support roles so you can build a team that actually holds up at higher difficulty.

Quick answer: Build your core around the S-tier DPS picks (Slime (Demon), Sound Breather Master, Kaizen (Ascended)), pair them with Raven (Red) as your tank and a Meta Support unit like Joilios King, and auto-sell anything in C tier once you have stronger replacements.

Anime Story 2 unit rankings by role

The table groups every ranked unit into its tier and role. DPS units run from S down to C. Tanks and Support are scored on their own scales since their job is protecting and buffing rather than raw damage.

TierRoleUnits

ADPSDevil Cyborg (Meltdown), Shadow Knight, Flame Lion, Reaper (Bankai), Ultimate Warrior, Aura Farmer, Crimson King, Maid Dior
BDPS23rd Magic Emperor, Greed (Fox), Pride Sun, Battle Maniac, Acu, Shiny Wrath (Fury)
CDPSAnti Hero, Bald, Super Roku, Agony, Youji, Sosuke
Meta TankTankRaven (Red), Black Bull, Titan, Ruki, Vogita
Meta SupportSupportJoilios King, Yono Star, Destruction, Gojin, Tatsumaki, Wandering Mage, Golden Wind Requiem, Greatest Maid

How this was ranked: Units are scored on consistent damage or utility across all game modes, how reliant they are on team synergies, and how well they hold up when difficulty spikes. S-tier units perform everywhere; lower tiers fall off as content gets harder. This reflects the current Update 2.5 meta as of June 2026.

Why the S-tier DPS units sit at the top

The S tier is built around units that keep high damage in every mode and rarely need a specific team to function. Slime (Demon) is one of the strongest overall picks because its passive buffs every Water Element unit by +50% and all other elements by +10%, while its Black Flames effect adds +66% damage and makes affected enemies take +10% more from all sources. It doubles as a support thanks to those team-wide buffs.

Sound Breather Master is the best pure damage dealer, especially in late-game Story and Nature Tower, and it gains +15% crit chance when Black Bull is on the team. Its Musical Score passive is RNG-dependent, so it can swing to 2x or down to 0.5x damage, which is the only real catch.

Kaizen (Ascended) earns its spot through reliability. Its Spiritual Pressure passive stuns three enemies for one turn at the start of a round, and its first attack hits for 200% more damage, making it excellent for farming Secret Bosses and Towers. Asota (Devil) brings a Leader skill that buffs all Sword allies by +15% damage and is fully immune to crowd control, including Stun, Poison, Black Flames, Freeze, Burn, and Frostbite.

Ant King shines against bosses and in Raids, with a 50% chance each turn to Poison for 90% damage and a Marked passive that pairs strongly with Shadow Knight. Dark Swordsman (Ascended) is the top Nature Tower damage option, applying Bleed for 80% of its damage as damage-over-time that doubles against burning enemies. Majestic Vampire stacks crit chance and crit damage while freezing grounded enemies every three turns, and Vampire Brandon adds heavy Bleed damage with strong self-healing that keeps it alive in long fights.

A-tier alternatives and where they fall short

A-tier units are solid stand-ins until you secure an S-tier core, but most of them lean on a synergy or condition. Devil Cyborg (Meltdown) buffs all Fire Element allies by +50% damage and unleashes a 400% AoE attack when its HP drops below 50%. Flame Lion is a Leader unit that boosts Brawler damage by 10%, and doubles Burn and Black Flame damage from allies, though it loses value without the Flame and Brawler synergies.

Shadow Knight is strong for early-to-mid progression and becomes far better with Ant King and Dark Assassin on the team. Reaper (Bankai) and Aura Farmer are dependable early picks but lean on RNG procs or high HP thresholds. Maid Dior only pays off in a dedicated Maid team, where it buffs other Maid units by 30%.

Best Tank and Support units for your team

Raven (Red) is the strongest tank in the game and the default front-line pick, soaking damage while offering some support and debuff utility. Black Bull, Titan, Ruki, and Vogita round out the Meta Tank options and all do the core job of keeping your DPS units alive.

On the support side, Joilios King leads a group that also includes Yono Star, Destruction, Gojin, Tatsumaki, Wandering Mage, Golden Wind Requiem, and Greatest Maid. These units buff allies and debuff enemies while still contributing reasonable damage, which is what separates a team that clears hard content from one that stalls out.

Relics and active codes

Most top DPS units want the same relic pool, so you rarely need to over-think it. The Baseball Bat, Flame Sword, and Candy Cane relics cover the majority of S and A-tier damage dealers, with single-relic units like Majestic Vampire and Maid Dior leaning on the Baseball Bat alone.

If you are still building toward a meta team, redeem the current in-game codes for a head start. The active codes are sorryfordelay, madaraishere, narutoupdate, and newlobby. Enter them through the in-game code menu, and you will see your reward applied immediately on a successful redemption.

The roster shifts with each major update, so re-check your team after a new patch lands. For now, anchoring on the S-tier DPS picks, a Meta Tank, and one or two Meta Support units gives you the most reliable lineup across every mode in Update 2.5.
