Ultimate Vault Hunter Rank 2 (UVH 2) becomes available only after you finish a specific set of UVH 1 challenges and then clear Lilith’s Wildcard mission tied to that tier. Progress is tracked per character, so each Vault Hunter needs to meet the requirements on their own save.
UVH 2 requirements (what you must complete on UVH 1)
Clear these four UVH 1 challenges, then complete Lilith’s Rush the Gate Wildcard mission.

Missions > Challenges > Ultimate Vault Hunter. Scroll to the UVH 1 section and note the four targets above. This tab is the authoritative checklist for unlocks.
Set your session to UVH 1 before you hunt any targets. Kills only count when completed on the required rank stated by the challenge text.
Defeat Bio-Bulkhead in Fadefields (Dissected Plateau → Synthetic Nave). Confirm the challenge ticks off in the UVH tab.
Defeat Bramblesong in Terminus Range (Stoneblood Forest → Bittervein Abandoned Auger Mine). Check the challenge updates.
Complete the side-quest chain in Dominion: finish “One Gassy Issue,” then do “One Slime Issue” to fight the Bio Armored Omega Thresher. Defeat the Thresher and verify “Omega 86’d” completes.
Defeat Sydney Pointylegs at the Ripper Drill Site in Fadefields (Hungering Plain). Confirm “No Points Awarded” completes.
Reopen the UVH Challenges tab and make sure all four UVH 1 entries show as completed. When they are, Lilith’s UVH 1 Wildcard becomes available.
Start Lilith’s Wildcard: Rush the Gate (UVH 1)
Fast travel to Moxxi’s Bottoms Up! in Carcadia Burn (Ruined Sumplands). Lilith stands inside the bar.
Talk to Lilith to accept the Wildcard mission “Rush the Gate.” After you finish all UVH 1 challenges, she shows an interaction indicator, and you’ll also see a large green skull mission marker on the map.
Complete “Rush the Gate” on UVH 1. This is a modified story mission with tougher enemies and modifiers.
Switch your session to UVH 2
Change your Ultimate Vault Hunter rank from 1 to 2. The option appears after you unlock the tier via Lilith’s Wildcard.
UVH 2 not unlocking after Rush the Gate? Try this
Confirm every UVH 1 challenge is checked
Open the UVH Challenges tab and verify all four UVH 1 tasks show as complete. Many players overlook one boss or assume Wildcards alone are sufficient.
If any entry is not ticked, swap to UVH 1 in Session Settings and finish it, then talk to Lilith again.
Start the correct Wildcard from Lilith (not the weekly)
Go to Lilith in Moxxi’s bar and accept “Rush the Gate” specifically. The rotating weekly Wildcard on the world map is separate and does not advance UVH tiers.
Look for the green icon on Lilith and a green skull marker on the map after your UVH 1 challenges are done. If you do not see them, a prerequisite is still missing.
Finish the Bio‑Thresher side‑quest chain
In Dominion’s Fades District, complete “One Gassy Issue,” then “One Slime Issue.” The Bio Armored Omega Thresher is the final fight of that chain.
Defeat the Thresher on UVH 1 and recheck the “Omega 86’d” challenge. It should now register properly.
Refresh your session if UVH 2 won’t appear
Return to the main menu, then load back into your save. In some cases the new rank doesn’t appear in Session Settings until you reload.
Co‑op progression tips
Have the character who needs the unlock pick up and turn in “Rush the Gate” from Lilith on their own save. Progress counts per character.
If a teammate didn’t get credit, repeat the mission with that player as the one who accepts and completes the turn‑in. Some groups also report better tracking when the player needing credit secures the boss kill.
If Lilith won’t accept the turn‑in
Toggle UVH off, speak to Lilith, and retake “Rush the Gate.” Complete it, then turn it in and set UVH back to 1 to confirm the rank is unlocked.
Once UVH 2 is active, expect tougher enemies and better loot. If anything doesn’t register, the UVH Challenges tab will always tell you what’s still missing.
