The Morning Star is the third of the four whips in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. Its chest is in a room you pass early on, but it sits on an upper level above the garden floor, and the way onto that level is from a room deeper in the castle.
Quick answer: Go to the Storerooms in the Main Hall and use the background door there. You exit into a hidden passage in the Inner Courtyard, and the Morning Star chest is just to your left.
Where the Morning Star is
A chest containing the Morning Star sits in the Inner Courtyard, within the Main Hall of Dracula’s castle. This is the first chamber beyond the castle’s entrance, immediately after the Castle Drawbridge. Upon entering, the location banner displays “INNER COURTYARD”.
Dark red trees and a large statue at its center mark this garden room. The main path leads through here after your fight with Isaac on the bridge, as you head toward the Entrance Corridor.

Look above the garden floor for the chest: it rests on the courtyard’s upper level, next to a concealed passage (a Secret Area) containing a background door. The interactive map places its pin in the Inner Courtyard. The closest Mirror of Life is in the Entrance Corridor, one room over to the right.

The hidden passage’s background door leads into the Storerooms, so approach the chest from there. From the Storerooms Mirror of Life, the Storerooms are through the door on the left. The mirror room’s other door, on the right, opens into the Wine Cellar; to enter the Wine Cellar, use the background door on the Entrance Corridor’s upper floor.
Open the Equipment menu (Armoury) and select the whip to equip it.

| Family | Tier | ATK (card) | Special move |
|---|---|---|---|

All whips share one family trait: “The furthest point of the weapon’s attack deals more damage.” That means you get the most from the Morning Star by fighting so enemies are at the tip of the whip, not up close.
The item card describes it as “A specialist weapon, mostly used by monster hunters.” Its lore text reads: “Originally intended as a harvesting tool, the addition of a iron, star-shaped head makes it lethal against more than just wheat. Clean after use.”
Here is how the Morning Star compares with the other three whips by card ATK. Every weapon and where it is: weapon locations list.
| Whip | Tier | ATK (card) |
|---|---|---|
| Whip | Ordinary | 25 |
| Thorn Whip | Refined | 50 |
| Morning Star | Masterpiece | 75 |
| Vampire Killer | Legendary | 100 |
Morning Star and The Fallen’s Work of Mercy
The Fallen’s Arcana, whose spell is Holy Cross, has a Work of Mercy that reads “Find 3 different whip-type weapons.” The Whip, Thorn Whip, Morning Star and Vampire Killer all count, and owning any three of them completes it.
The reward is 1 Blessing, which you can spend on a Gift of Holy Cross. If you already have two whips, picking up the Morning Star completes the task.
