Crimson Desert: How to Fix the Dismantled Kiln at Kilnden Workshop

The exact pieces, the ability level you need, and why the fragments refuse to lock together.

The exact pieces, the ability level you need, and why the fragments refuse to lock together.

The dismantled kiln is the step that stops most players cold during Chapter 4’s Kiln Repair at the Kilnden Workshop quest. Everything around it is straightforward — plug a cable back in, drop glowing orbs into sockets — but this one asks you to rebuild a stone tower out of rubble using two abilities the game has barely explained, and it quietly requires an upgrade you may not have bought yet.

Quick answer: Use Axiom Force to lift the two jagged-edged fragments onto the kiln base one after the other, let each one auto-rotate into alignment, then climb to the top, jump, and trigger Force Palm in midair to fuse them. Aerial Force Palm only works at Force Palm level 2 — without it, nothing locks. Finish by pushing the yellow crank at the base.

Abilities required to fix the dismantled kiln

Two of Kliff’s Abyss abilities do all the work here, and one of them has a hidden prerequisite. The on-screen tutorial panel appears whether or not you can actually perform the move, which is why so many players assume the kiln is broken rather than their skill tree.

AbilityInputWhat it does here
Axiom ForceHold L3 / Left StickLifts, rotates, and positions the heavy kiln fragments
Force Palm (level 2)Jump, then R3 / Right Stick in midairSlams downward to fuse stacked pieces into one structure

If you respecced at any point before this quest, check your skills before walking up to the kiln. A respec drops Force Palm back to level 1, which removes the aerial version and leaves you swinging at the stones with nothing to show for it.

Note: on version 1.18.00 and later, the Force Current upgrade can also reattach the broken parts if you have unlocked it.

Which two kiln pieces you actually need

Plenty of stone chunks are scattered around the base, and most of them are decoration. Only two fit. Both are identifiable by their rough, clearly shattered edges — the intact-looking blocks lying nearby will never snap into place no matter how carefully you position them.

OrderPieceWhere it sits
FirstRing-shaped middle section with a jagged bottomOff to the side of the kiln, near the wall
SecondChimney section with a grate on topBehind the kiln, also with visibly broken edges

You get clear confirmation when you have the right one. Hold a correct fragment above the base and it rotates itself into the proper orientation, with holographic guides marking the fit, swirling leaves at the top, and a green tint on the aligned edges.

Stacking and fusing the kiln, step by step

Stand near the base and hold L3 to grab the ring-shaped fragment with Axiom Force. Drag it directly over the kiln base and hold it there until the game rotates it for you, then release so it settles on top.
Grab the chimney piece with the grate and lift it above the section you just placed. Line up the broken edges the same way and drop it, giving you a three-part stack sitting loosely on the base.
Climb up the assembled stack to the grate at the very top. You can fuse both joints in one go, so there is no need to climb down between pieces.
From the top, jump straight up and press R3 while still in the air. The downward slam welds the sections together and the kiln visibly becomes a single repaired structure.
Drop back to ground level and push the yellow crank on the side of the kiln until it locks. Fire and smoke pour out of the top, and the objective clears.

Why the pieces won’t lock together

There are only a handful of reasons this step stalls, and none of them involve luck.

  • Force Palm is still level 1. The tutorial prompt shows up regardless, but the aerial slam simply does not exist until you spend a point on the second rank.
  • You are crouching instead of jumping. A grounded or crouched Force Palm is blocked here, and in some cases it launches the loose fragments off the structure and down the hill.
  • The wrong fragment is on the stack. If a piece never auto-rotates and no alignment glow appears, it is one of the decoy blocks — swap it for one with shattered edges.

The skill requirement is by far the most common culprit, and it is the detail the in-game tooltip leaves out entirely.

If pieces have vanished from the ground altogether, or the crank refuses to respond after a clean assembly, that points to a quest state issue rather than an input problem. Restarting the game, or loading an autosave from the end of the previous quest and replaying forward, is the practical reset.

How to confirm the dismantled kiln is repaired

Fusing the stack is not the same as completing the objective. The kiln has to be running. Once the crank locks into position, the structure ignites with fire and smoke, the quest marker over it disappears, and the objective list stops tracking the dismantled kiln.

With that marker gone, only the disconnected kiln and the fuel kiln remain before you head back to Grimnir to close out the quest. The three repair objectives can be tackled in any order, so if the dismantled kiln is fighting you, there is no penalty for clearing the other two first and coming back to it.
