Enshrouded 1.0: Where to Get Mycelium

Mine the white, mushroom-covered ground inside the Shroud to stock Mycelium for altar upgrades, boots, and building blocks.

Mine the white, mushroom-covered ground inside the Shroud to stock Mycelium for altar upgrades, boots, and building blocks.

Mycelium is the pale, bumpy crust that spreads across the ground in and around the Shroud, carpeted in small mushroom caps and dry, coral-like growth. You gather it by mining those patches with a pickaxe, and you will want a steady supply once the Flame Altar is ready for its next upgrade.

Quick answer: Head into a Shroud zone, find the white mushroom-covered ground on the slopes leading down into the fog, and mine it with a pickaxe. Each pickup adds Mycelium to your inventory.

What Mycelium is

Mycelium is a crafting material tied to the Shroud. Its in-game description reads: “Mycelium of mushrooms that have been absorbing the magical properties of the Shroud. Could this be used for alchemical purposes?”

How to find and mine Mycelium

Open your map and pick a Shroud area. The fog-covered zones are marked out, so you can plan a route to one before you set off.
Near the fog’s edge, search for light-colored soil marked with little round mushroom caps and brittle, coral-shaped growths. These patches tend to appear on slopes descending toward the Shroud.
Equip a pickaxe and use the “Mine” action on the white ground. The pickup list shows Mycelium as you break the crust apart.

What Mycelium is used for

Taking the Flame Altar from level 2 to level 3 costs 25 Mycelium, along with 10 Wax, 10 Salt, 5 Spark, 10 Shroud Wood, 10 Flintstone, and 1 Scavenger Matron Helmet. Beyond that, it feeds several boots and a couple of crafted substances.

The boots each pair Mycelium with their own extras. Alchemist Apprentice Boots also take 3 Torn Cloth, 6 String, and 2 Resin. Rising Fighter Boots need 2 Animal Fur, 5 Resin, and 1 Metal Sheets. Scout Boots call for 8 String, 4 Dried Fur, and 2 Resin. The White Glowing Substance recipe adds 7 Springlands Dirt, 20 Bonemeal, and 1 Wood Acid, while the Mycelium Overgrown Block just mixes in 2 Stone.

Items not to confuse with Mycelium

Two other things share the name or the look, and neither is the crafting material you mine from the Shroud.

  • Acidic Mycelium is a separate material found in its own spots, not interchangeable with plain Mycelium.
  • The Farmer makes a separate building material also named Mycelium (2 Fossilized Bone + 3 Mycelium = 100), which you apply to your base with the Overgrowth Tool. It is for decoration, not crafting.
