Final Fantasy Resonance has 14 battle effects. Eight are buffs and six are debuffs, and Esuna and items can’t remove a debuff, because the game doesn’t treat debuffs as status ailments.
Quick answer: Regen, Reflect, Reraise, Haste, Brave, Faith, Protect and Shell are buffs. Debuffs include Slow, Stagger defense down, Deshell, Deprotect, Defaith and Debrave. Blue markers indicate buffs; red markers indicate debuffs.
What buffs and debuffs are in Final Fantasy Resonance
The game’s Help page “Buffs and Debuffs” covers them in one line: “Certain magic can apply buffs or debuffs on characters. Be sure to monitor them, as they can greatly sway the outcome of a battle.”
During combat, the effect icon appears beside a character’s name in the party display in the screen’s bottom-right corner. Its color identifies the type: blue indicates a buff, and red indicates a debuff. Help uses this color convention on every effect page.

There are eight buffs, and they’re split across two Help pages. “Buff and Debuff Effects (Part 1)” lists Regen, Reflect, Reraise and Haste. It also lists one debuff, Slow.

“Buff and Debuff Effects (Part 2)” lists the other four buffs: Brave, Faith, Protect and Shell. Every effect text below is copied from the game.
| Buff | Icon | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Regen | Blue | “Restores health each turn.” |
| Reflect | Blue | “Reflects magic back (excluding magic unique to certain characters).” |
| Reraise | Blue | “Revives a KO’d character once during battle.” |
| Haste | Blue | “Increases speed.” |
| Brave | Blue | “Increases physical attack.” |
| Faith | Blue | “Increases magic attack.” |
| Protect | Blue | “Increases physical defense.” |
| Shell | Blue | “Increases magic defense.” |

Every debuff in Final Fantasy Resonance
There are six debuffs. Slow appears on the Part 1 page, and “Buff and Debuff Effects (Part 3)” lists the remaining five: Debrave, Defaith, Deprotect, Deshell and Stagger defense down. All of them carry red icons. Stagger defense down works on the stagger gauge rather than a regular stat.
| Debuff | Icon | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Slow | Red | “Decreases speed.” |
| Debrave | Red | “Decreases physical attack.” |
| Defaith | Red | “Decreases magic attack.” |
| Deprotect | Red | “Decreases physical defense.” |
| Deshell | Red | “Decreases magic defense.” |
| Stagger defense down | Red | “Increases stagger power taken.” |

Five of the debuffs are mirror images of a buff. Slow counters Haste, Debrave counters Brave, Defaith counters Faith, Deprotect counters Protect and Deshell counters Shell. Stagger defense down is the odd one out, with no matching buff on these pages. If you want to know what speed, physical and magic attack, and defense actually change in combat, here’s what each stat does.
Can Esuna or items remove debuffs?
The first Help page is direct about it: “Unlike status ailments, debuffs cannot be removed by Esuna or items.” In Final Fantasy Resonance, a debuff and a status ailment are two separate things.
Poison is a status ailment found in Chapter 1, and items can treat it. Antidote Herb is sold at the Mitra item shop for 100 gil (“Cures Poison.”), while Leah’s Vision provides Nullify Poison (“Prevents Poison.”). Esuna appears in Leah’s 1-star Awakening list, which is locked at the start.
Which characters apply buffs and debuffs in Chapter 1
Some of these skills come from leveling characters and some come from Visions. To use the Vision skills, you need to equip Leah or Tronn. Each Vision’s list is under Equipment & Abilities > Vision Details > Awakening Level, and the star count is the Awakening level you need.
| Effect | Who applies it in Chapter 1 | How |
|---|---|---|
| Shell | Leah (Vision) | Shell, 0 stars; Shellga, 1 star |
| Protect | Rain; Leah (Vision) | Protect at Lv.9, Protectga at Lv.22; Protect at Half HP, 2 stars |
| Haste | Lasswell; Leah (Vision) | Haste at Lv.12, Hastega at Lv.28; Haste at Half HP, 2 stars |
| Regen | Leah (Vision) | Resonance Healing Wind |
| Reraise | Leah (Vision) | Reraise, 3 stars |
| Deshell | Tronn (Vision) | Deshell on Stagger, 2 stars |
Leah (White Mage Vision, Medic)
Shell is a 0-star skill, so it’s available as soon as Leah is equipped, and its tooltip reads “[White Magic] Increase magic defense of an ally.”

Shellga comes in at 1 star, and Protect at Half HP and Haste at Half HP both arrive at 2 stars. Reraise sits at 3 stars, with the tooltip “[White Magic] Automatically grant Raise when KO’d.”

Her Resonance, Healing Wind, is where Regen comes from: “Heal all allies and cast Regen on them. Heal effect can exceed max HP.”
Tronn (Black Mage Vision, Breaker)
Tronn’s 2-star Deshell on Stagger connects a debuff to staggering an enemy. His 0-star Blind and 1-star Poison are status ailments, so they don’t count as debuffs.

Rain (Sentinel) and Lasswell (Breaker)
Rain and Lasswell gain their buffs as they level up. Rain gets Protect at Lv.9, then Protectga at Lv.22.

Lasswell gets Haste at Lv.12, followed by Hastega at Lv.28.

Where to read the buff and debuff pages in-game
The pages unlock after the game shows the tutorial in Chapter 1. Once that’s happened, you can open them at any time. Key bindings are covered in Final Fantasy Resonance controls.
