In Final Fantasy Resonance, each Sanctum of Light is a modest shrine containing one renowned Final Fantasy character. There are no enemies to battle or items to collect inside. Answer three questions, and that hero joins your party as a Vision.

Quick answer: To claim a sanctum’s hero as a Vision, touch its Vision Crystal and respond to three questions. Across five regions, 16 sanctums are devoted to heroes; Whirlpool Hollow is an additional location where you battle Sephiroth. The Warrior of Light’s Sanctum of Light is at the foot of the cliff just north-west of the Village of Kol, on Kol’s desert island in the Kingdom of Grandshelt, and it is open during Chapter 1.

What is a Sanctum of Light

“Sanctum of Light” is the game’s term for each Vision Crystal Sanctum. Inside, you find one Final Fantasy hero and gain that character as a Vision. No random encounters or items await there; the Vision is the sole reward.

The story introduces sanctums in Chapter 1, Tailing the Truth. The voice of the Will of Light tells you, “In sanctums scattered across the world, Vision Crystals lie in wait to be awakened.” It follows that with a direct order: “Seek them out… Visit the sanctums, command the power of thoughts…and stand defiant against the wills of destruction.”

Where to find the Warrior of Light’s Sanctum of Light

Take the west exit from the Village of Kol to the World Map. Just north-west of Kol, the sanctum is marked by a door icon; its glowing blue entrance sits at the cliff’s base, where the screen identifies the area as “Kingdom of Grandshelt”. You can visit during Chapter 1, even while your main objective remains “Find a ship in Grandport”.

What happens inside a Sanctum of Light

These instructions cover a Chapter 1 visit to the Warrior of Light’s sanctum near Kol. All hero sanctums open with the same greeting and use three questions; the hero, story and questions are the elements that differ.

A voice greets you with “Ah, yes, it was but a matter of time before you would find your way here.” and “Welcome to the Vision Crystal Sanctum—a nexus between planes of existence…” It then tells you “Henceforth, I shall pose to you three questions.” and adds “Answer them truthfully and you shall forge a bond with that hero, regardless of what those words are.”

When the voice says “Now, lay your hand upon the crystal, so it may weave a tale of a distant world.”, the crystal tells the hero’s story, which here is the story of the first Final Fantasy. The tale ends with “That individual was the Warrior of Light, and it is with him you shall endeavor to forge a bond.”

Answer three questions, each with three choices and a distinct response to every choice. There is no incorrect pick; whichever options you choose, you receive the Vision. The full set is listed in Vision questions and answers.

After the third reply, a closing line plays, and in the Warrior of Light’s sanctum it was “You and he are similar in many ways, and the two of you complement each other exceedingly well.” The hero’s title card follows with “The First Warrior of Light” and “The adventurer with whom it all began.” The message “You obtained a vision!” then lists “Warrior of Light x1”, and the voice adds “His thoughts shall coalesce into a vision, which will, in turn, bestow upon you hope.”

The Warrior of Light’s Vision is followed immediately by the game’s “Roles” tutorial. This tutorial covers all six roles and notes that both Rain and the Warrior of Light are Sentinels. What each role does is covered in roles explained.
When you return outside, the sanctum’s entrance has stopped glowing. Its World Map marker, north-west of Kol, now bears a check mark. The Vision is the sole reward; you receive neither items nor Gil.

After that, the location gets a new name: “Sanctum of” plus the hero’s name. You can come back and replay the story at the “Reexperience the tale of a distant world?” prompt.

Each sanctum gives its reward only once. On a return visit the game tells you, “You shall find no new puissance”.

Every Sanctum of Light and its Vision

There are 16 hero sanctums spread across five regions, and each gives one Vision. On top of those, Whirlpool Hollow in the Kingdom of Grandshelt gives Fallen Hero Sephiroth after a boss fight.

When sanctum markers appear

The first sanctum icons appear on your world map in Chapter 1, with “Go to Grandshelt Castle” displayed as the main objective. Once inside, you’ll be offered the choice “What’s our next move?” Charlotte explains that geological surveys have brought her to several similar sites, then adds their locations to your map. This places three sanctum icons on the western continent. For the castle route, see the Grandshelt Castle walkthrough.

After claiming a Vision from a sanctum, look for a check mark on its World Map marker; this lets you track your progress across the sanctums.

You don’t have to go right away. Lasswell says it himself: “We can always seek out the visions later.”

Sanctums in the other regions open up as the story moves forward. The airship tutorial tells you to “Soar across the skies in search of more Sanctums of Light”. During Chapter 1, you can only reach the sanctums in the Kingdom of Grandshelt.

First Visions: White Mage Leah and Black Mage Tronn

During the Chapter 1 story at Rain’s house in Mitra, you get White Mage Leah and Black Mage Tronn together, with the message “You obtained visions!”

Every Vision you collect after that, from a sanctum or a side quest, works the same way. Here’s how to equip Visions and how to raise their Vision Mastery Rank. To match each Vision to the right party member, see the best Visions for each character. All 26 are in the Visions list.

Whirlpool Hollow and Fallen Hero Sephiroth

One sanctum in the Kingdom of Grandshelt works differently from the others. Instead of three questions, Whirlpool Hollow gives you this message: “One of these uncanny individuals, a hero no more, requests that you do battle with him.” You can pick “Accept the challenge” or leave and return “when you become stronger”.

The fight is against Sephiroth, who is Lv 45 with 250,000 HP. Beat him and you get the Vision “Fallen Hero Sephiroth”. Whirlpool Hollow opens later in the story. The fight itself is covered in how to get Sephiroth.
