The Veroquine is one of the stronger swords you can pick up early in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and it isn’t sold by a merchant or handed out by a story beat. It sits in a single golden chest at the far end of an optional dungeon, which means you can walk straight past it and never know it existed.
Quick answer: Travel south from Dagsion to Masked Woods in Melias, choose Explore Dungeon, then follow the path to the end and open the glowing golden chest.
Route to Masked Woods on the world map
Masked Woods sits well south of the capital, so open the world map from Dagsion and trace the road down through the landmarks below. You don’t need to stop at any of them — they’re just the markers that tell you you’re heading the right way.
- Agris Stronghold
- Klytius Plains
- Callisto Posthouse
- Kyklops Stronghold
- Raivo Port, just past Aurora’s Temple
Once you clear Raivo Port and Aurora’s Temple, the Masked Woods node appears in Melias. Select it, pick Explore Dungeon, and confirm Yes on the prompt to drop into the level.

Masked Woods is a short, linear dungeon with a handful of enemy encounters and three chests. The Veroquine is in the last one, but the two before it are worth the detour.

The dungeon tracks how many chests you’ve found in the top right of the screen, so check that counter before you leave rather than backtracking later.
| Chest | Contents |
|---|---|
| First | Heavy-Armor Manual (1/1) |
| Second | Venin Bow, Wootz Steel, Lunar Stone |
| Golden (final) | Veroquine |
How to confirm you picked up the Veroquine
The sword lands in your inventory the moment the golden chest opens, and the dungeon’s chest counter should read as fully cleared. Open the weapon’s info panel and you should see durability at 30/30 with the Prune combat art listed underneath its description.
Equipping it is a separate hurdle. The Veroquine asks for Sword rank B plus Axe rank C, so a unit who hasn’t trained that far will be able to carry it but not swing it. If nobody in your party qualifies yet, hold onto it and come back once someone hits the rank.
Veroquine stats and the Prune combat art
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Might | 13 |
| Weight | 12 |
| Hit | 60 |
| Crit | 0 |
| Curse | 2 |
| Range | 1 |
| Durability | 30 |
| Skill requirement | Sword B, Axe C |
It’s described in-game as a slender magic sword carrying dark power, and the numbers back up that trade-off. Might of 13 is the second highest of any sword in the game behind the Zanbato, but 60 Hit is by far the worst accuracy on the list, and weight 12 is triple what a standard Iron Sword costs you. Since weapon weight feeds directly into Speed, a slower unit holding this will lose follow-up attacks — which matters, because sword follow-ups deal 1.2x damage on the second hit.
Prune is the reason to carry it anyway. The art costs 10 and stacks +15 Might and +20 Hit on top of the base weapon, which patches the accuracy problem and pushes damage well past anything else you’ll have at that point in a run. Its trigger rate scales with Dexterity, so the sword pays off most on a high-Dex unit rather than a pure Strength bruiser.
Nothing gates Masked Woods behind a chapter or a route, so the sensible move is to detour there as soon as the world map opens up and bank the sword for whichever unit crosses Sword B first.
