Carrot Sticks is an Unusual bait in Fisch built around a single job: catching Pufferfish. It is sold by one vendor, Dr. Monty, who lives deep underwater in the Outer Deep, and the shop option stays locked until you have worked through his Halibut Harpoon quests. Getting it is less about luck and more about making the trip and finishing the questline.

Quick answer: Buy Carrot Sticks from Dr. Monty inside Monty’s Lab in the Outer Deep for 56 C$ each. The purchase option unlocks only after you complete his fifth Halibut Harpoon quest.

What Carrot Sticks does in Fisch

Carrot Sticks is a targeted bait rather than a general luck booster. When equipped, it adds a large chance to hook a Pufferfish, as long as that fish is already in the current pool where you are fishing. That makes it the fastest way to fulfil Pufferfish objectives for the Halibut Harpoon storyline.

The Pufferfish it targets appears in the Ocean during Summer and carries an average value of around 203.8 C$. When the hook chance is high enough, Carrot Sticks will even take priority over certain fixed-chance catches. It was added in Version 1.97.0.

Carrot Sticks can also come from the Merchant Rod’s passive ability, so you may pick some up without visiting Dr. Monty at all.

How to reach Dr. Monty in the Outer Deep

Dr. Monty sits inside Monty’s Lab, a research dome in the Outer Deep part of The Deep. Getting there means crossing the open ocean and diving into a whirlpool, but the game can mark the whole route for you.

Go to Moosewood and talk to Henry near the newsstand. Choose the option to check the latest news to open the What’s New menu.
In the What’s New window, open the Halibut Harpoon entry and press Guide Me. This drops a green star waypoint that points straight at Dr. Monty.

Board a boat at the Moosewood docks and track the green star over the ocean. Sail beyond Castaway Cliffs to the whirlpool, which marks the way into The Deep.

Unlock the Carrot Sticks purchase option

Finding Dr. Monty is only half the job. When you first speak to him, Carrot Sticks will not be for sale. He tells you there is still progress to make before you can get hold of it, and that progress is his Halibut Harpoon quest chain.

Work through the tasks Dr. Monty assigns, which revolve around returning Pufferfish to him. The option to buy Carrot Sticks becomes available once you have completed his fifth quest. From that point they cost 56 C$ per bait and can be bought in bulk.

Confirm you can buy Carrot Sticks

You will know the unlock worked when Carrot Sticks appears as a purchasable item in Dr. Monty’s shop dialogue, priced at 56 C$ each, instead of the locked message he gives before the quests are done. Buy a stack, equip it from your Equipment Bag, and the bait is ready to pull in Pufferfish.
