Fisch: How to Get the Ancient Idol Rod on Skycrest

The rod comes from Forge Master Torin's first quest step, which demands five Giants and every Idol's Charm.

The rod comes from Forge Master Torin’s first quest step, which demands five Giants and every Idol’s Charm.

The Ancient Idol Rod is one of the five new fishing rods added to Fisch with the Skycrest update, and it sits behind the longest chunk of grinding on the floating island. It carries 165% Luck, infinite weight capacity, and a passive called Idol’s Judgment that fires off during catches. Getting it means finishing the opening stage of Forge Master Torin’s questline, and that stage is gated behind Skycrest’s Ancient Idol trials.

Quick answer: Speak to Forge Master Torin in town, accept his request for “Five Giants, and every Idol’s Charm,” then earn a Charm from all seven Ancient Idols on Skycrest and bring him five Giants. Completing that first quest phase hands over the Ancient Idol Rod.

Ancient Idol Rod stats

The rod’s numbers explain why the requirement is so heavy. Luck is the headline stat, and the unlimited weight ceiling means no catch is too heavy for it. Control is the weak point at 0.3.

What Torin asks for

Torin’s request is short and blunt: “Five Giants, and every Idol’s Charm. No shortcuts.” Both halves have to be done before he will hand anything over.

Every Idol’s Charm means all seven of them. Skycrest has seven stone-carved Ancient Idols scattered across the island, and each one gives you a Charm once you clear its set of trials. There is no way to substitute one Charm for another or skip an idol you find annoying.

Charms are not just quest checkboxes. Once earned, they level up as you catch fish in Skycrest and give scaling bonuses to Luck, Control, Resilience, Max Weight, Lure Speed, and Progress Speed. The Crest Amulet lets you hold up to nine of them at once, with slots unlocking as your Idol Favor rises.

Build Idol Favor before you start

Idol Favor is Skycrest’s own levelling system, and almost everything on the island scales off it. Idol trials, companion taming, and Sky Crystal placement all check your Favor level, so a low level will wall you out of the harder Charms long before you reach Torin’s counter.

Favor comes in from catches on the island, and the amounts vary by rarity and mutation. Sovereign and Gravitas catches pay out far more than a plain fish. Master Hiroto’s timed angler challenges scale to your current Favor level and pay large lump sums, which makes them the fastest way to climb once you can survive the difficulty.

Note: The Idol Taiga companion generates extra Idol Favor passively and auto-sacrifices low-rarity catches at the Fire of Spirits. Taming it first will shorten the grind toward the Charms.

Unlocking the rod

Work through the trials at each of the seven Ancient Idols until you hold all seven Charms. The hardest ones are tied to the Tropical Squall and Raging Squall weather events, which gate the Titanic Charm and Flash Charm behind extreme trials.
Collect five Giants. Bring a rod with solid Resilience and Control for these, since Giant catches put real pressure on the tension bar.

Walk into town and find Forge Master Torin. He is a short trip through the settlement, not tucked away on a cliff.
Interact with Torin to turn in the Giants and Charms. Clearing this first phase of his questline is what awards the Ancient Idol Rod. You will know it worked when the rod appears in your inventory and can be equipped like any other.

Torin’s questline continues past this point, so finishing the first stage does not close it out. The rod is the reward for that stage alone.

How Idol’s Judgment works

Idol’s Judgment is the rod’s passive, and it triggers at random during a catch. When it fires, a second judgment bar appears on top of the normal reeling minigame. The outcome lands as either Good Judgment or Bad Judgment.

Because the extra bar can appear without warning, the rod’s low 0.3 Control is felt more here than on paper. Charms that boost Control or Resilience take some of that edge off, which is convenient given you will already own all seven by the time the rod is in hand.

Common reasons the quest will not complete

Torin’s wording leaves no room for partial credit. If he will not hand over the rod, it is almost always one of these two things.

  • You are missing a Charm. All seven idols must be cleared, including the squall-gated trials.
  • Your Idol Favor level is too low to attempt the remaining trials, which stalls the Charm collection rather than the turn-in itself.

Skycrest mixes permanent and limited content, so parts of the island are tied to Fischfest and will not stay forever. The Charm and idol systems are the backbone of the island’s progression, which makes the Ancient Idol Rod less of a side unlock and more of a receipt for finishing Skycrest’s core grind.
