The Dark Art Skull is one of the harder drops in Fisch’s FischFright 3 Halloween event. You can’t buy it and you can’t fish it up. It only comes from finishing quests for the Goblin NPCs, and those Goblins don’t stay in one place. The late-game rituals also ask for several of them, so expect to farm it more than once.

Quick answer: When a “Goblins have spawned at…” banner appears, go to that island, accept the Goblin’s hardest challenge, finish it, and turn it in. Repeat until the Dark Art Skull drops.

Dark Art Skull drop source and odds

The Dark Art Skull is a reward from Goblin quests. It sits in a pool of other event rewards, so finishing a quest does not guarantee one. A single turn-in might give you a common item like a Bat Wing instead. Difficulty matters. Harder Goblin challenges have better odds of giving the skull, and the item is tied to the Goblin’s Quest on Hard difficulty.

In practice, every quest you finish is one roll at the skull. Picking the toughest option each time gives you better odds on each roll.

Goblin spawn locations and the spawn banner

Goblins don’t have a fixed spot. They spawn on random islands around the map. Moosewood, Moosewood Village, Roslit Bay, and Enchanted Fright are all known spawn spots. Each time a group appears, a banner shows up at the bottom of the screen for the whole server. It names the island, for example “Goblins have spawned at Moosewood!”, and has a Navigate prompt to help you get there.

Once you reach the island, you still have to search for the Goblin. They can stand in odd spots, such as next to a wooden outhouse on Moosewood. Walk up to one and use the [E] Talk prompt to open its dialogue.

How to farm the Dark Art Skull from Goblin quests

Watch the bottom of your screen for the Goblin spawn banner. Note the island it names, because that is the only place the new Goblins will be.
Travel to that island. A glider like the manta glider makes it quicker to cover ground, and the Navigate prompt on the banner points you the right way.
Find the Goblin and talk to it. It opens with a taunt and offers to trade one of its ingredients if you take on a task for it.

Pick the hardest option. Choosing “Give me your ULTIMATE challenge.” gives a tougher task with better skull odds. Picking “My calculator broke, can you replace it?” gives a math question instead. “Nevermind” closes the dialogue.
Complete the objective. Math questions are word problems about Goblins, ingredients, and Hex Energy totals in Beatrix’s Cauldron, so read each number carefully. Fetch tasks show up in your quest list with a counter, such as “Gloomy’s Taffy Trout For Spooky Goblin (0/3)”. They usually mean catching specific event fish, and a basic rod like the Flimsy Rod is enough.

Go back to the Goblin that gave you the quest and talk to it again to claim your reward. Keep track of where each one is standing, since your quest list can hold tasks from Goblins on several islands at once.
Repeat the whole loop with each new spawn banner until the Dark Art Skull drops.

Confirming a Goblin quest reward

When you turn in a finished quest, the Goblin replies with “Color me impressed! You finished the challenge!” Right after that, a pickup message tells you what you got, such as “You just got a Bat Wing!” If that message names the Dark Art Skull, the item is now in your inventory. If it names anything else, the roll missed and you need another quest.

Fisch also has a bobber called Dark Art Skull from an earlier FischFright, which came from donating 2 ingredients to the Witch’s Cauldron. The FischFright 3 ritual item comes from Goblin quests, so don’t mix the two up.

How many Dark Art Skulls FischFright 3 rituals use

One skull is not enough. Rituals at the Frankenstein NPC in the Cemetery use up the Dark Art Skull at several points in the chain.

Omniscient RitualJack-o-Lanterns1Omniscient Spinecaster

The Eldritch, Omniscient, and Ghoul Nessie rituals alone need seven skulls. Keep running Goblin quests even after your first drop.

Beatrix’s Cauldron Hex Energy while farming Goblins

Goblin farming also gives you witch ingredients. Take them to Beatrix’s Cauldron in Caustic Hallow and choose “Offer All Ingredients” or “Offer One Ingredient.” Each offering adds Hex Energy, and the game confirms it with a line like “Offered 1 ingredients: +4 Hex Energy (179 total).” Doing this between spawn banners means you build Hex Energy while you wait for your next shot at the Dark Art Skull.
