Fisch: How to Unlock Wish of the Sky (Skycrest Update)

Ryusei opens the limited rod menu only after the Keeper of the Sky quest and five idol trials.

Ryusei opens the limited rod menu only after the Keeper of the Sky quest and five idol trials.

Skycrest added a floating island, a new Idol Favor progression track, and one NPC that most players will beeline for. Ryusei sits near the top of the island and offers Wish of the Sky, a menu that lets you pick a single vaulted rod and bring its questline back. He will not talk shop until you have proved yourself, and the rejection line he gives is deliberately vague about what is missing.

Quick answer: Finish the “Keeper of the Sky: The Elder’s Market & The Master’s Test” quest, then complete all five trials from a single Ancient Idol (Nagomi is the fastest), and speak to Ryusei again to open the Wish of the Sky menu.

Where to find Ryusei on Skycrest Island

Head to Moosewood and stand next to the leaderboard at roughly 350, 135, 250. The large pink clam teleporter there sends you to the Fischfest 2 island. If you have 50 percent of the Fischfest 2 bestiary filled, the Magic Conch does the same job.
Talk to the Shipwright, take a boat, and look for the vertical waterfall near -25700, 2591, -4712. Swimming up it carries you to Skycrest.
Once you surface, keep to the left side of the island and climb toward -26331, 3150, -4459. That is Ryusei. Speaking to him before you qualify produces the line “The fifth trial is still unanswered. Return when it is done.”

Requirement 1: Complete the Keeper of the Sky quest

The Keeper of the Sky questline gates most of Skycrest, and the stage that matters here is “The Elder’s Market & The Master’s Test.” It has three objectives, none of which are difficult once you are on the island.

ObjectiveHow to clear it
Reach Idol Favor Level 5Catch fish and complete tasks on Skycrest until the Idol Favor bar hits level 5
Purchase any item from Elder Kaito’s ShopBuy the cheapest thing in stock; the shop rotates its stock weekly
Accept any task from Master HirotoTalk to Hiroto and accept a timed angler challenge — accepting is enough, you do not have to finish it

Master Hiroto and Elder Kaito’s Shop are both on the island, so you can knock out two objectives in a single lap. Walk up to either NPC until the Talk prompt appears and interact.

Idol Favor Level 5 is the only objective that takes real time. Hiroto’s challenges scale with your Idol Favor level and pay out large amounts of Favor, so accepting and completing one is the quickest way to push the bar up.

Turning the quest in pays out an Unsellable Crested Relic x1 and +250 Idol Favor, which conveniently feeds straight back into the progression you need for the rest of the island.

Requirement 2: Finish five trials from one Ancient Idol

Seven stone-carved Ancient Idols are scattered around Skycrest — Hayate, Ebisu, Fudo, Nagomi, Goriki, Shunsoku, and Amanojaku. Ryusei only cares that you clear five trials from one of them. Mixing trials across different idols does not count, so pick one and stick with it.

Nagomi, at roughly -26193, 3083, -4550, is the easiest set by a wide margin. Two of its trials require almost no effort at all.

Nagomi trialFastest approach
Stand Still for 60 Seconds StraightDo not move your character or your camera for a full minute
Pet Your Companion 10 TimesEquip a companion from your Satchel and press E ten times
Directly Catch 20 Common, Uncommon, Unusual, or Rare FishAny mid-tier rod plus Rapid Catcher Bait clears this in minutes
Directly Catch 100 Fish with Crab CagesBuy 100 cages from the Moosewood Merchant, line the dock, wait about 10 minutes, then claim
Catch 1 Grandpa Horseshoe Crab with Crab CagesUse a Relic Crab Cage or Gold Crab Cage with Golden Shrimp Bait at the Desolate Deep

The Grandpa Horseshoe Crab is the one genuine bottleneck. It is a secret-rarity catch at the Desolate Deep and only appears during Spring, in Clear or Rain weather, with no time-of-day restriction. Relic Crab Cages come from Sunken Reliquary and Gold Crab Cages from Tidefall Castle; standard cages will waste your time.

Trial progress is tracked per idol, so open the main menu from the HUD if you want to check which of the five you still owe Nagomi before hiking back up the mountain.

How to confirm Wish of the Sky is unlocked

Return to Ryusei and interact with him. Instead of the rejection line, he now offers the “[I’m ready]” option, followed by “Then speak, and I will listen.” Choosing it opens the Wish of the Sky screen, which lists the vaulted rods as individual buttons such as “Wish for Wingripper” and “Wish for Soulreaper.”

If the menu still will not open, only two things are ever wrong. Either the Keeper of the Sky stage is unfinished — usually the Elder Kaito purchase, which people forget — or your five trials are spread across multiple idols instead of one. Ryusei’s “fifth trial is still unanswered” line refers to the idol trials specifically.

What a wish actually gives you

This is the part worth reading twice. Selecting a rod does not place it in your inventory. It unlocks that rod’s original quest — the button on the confirmation screen literally reads “START THE ORIGINAL QUEST” — and you still have to complete every step of it yourself.

Wishing for Soulreaper, for example, reopens its questline involving The Reaper and the Underground Music Venue. Those steps are unchanged from when the rod was originally available. Because the wish is a single choice tied to a full questline, pick a rod you will actually grind for and use.

Rods that appear in the menu include:

  • Acidgrinder
  • Castbound
  • Chrysalis
  • Cinderstring
  • Eardrum
  • Fallen Snowblade
  • Lullaby
  • MiguRod
  • Noiseform
  • Nocturne
  • Part
  • Remembrance
  • Soulreaper
  • Steampunk Rod
  • Test Rod
  • Wingkeeper
  • Wingripper

Note: rods that are still obtainable through normal play, and permanent rods whose quests remain open, are a poor use of a wish. The value here is in the rods the developers vaulted, since those questlines cannot be started any other way.

Ryusei’s offer is tied to Fischfest leaving, so the sensible order is to clear the Keeper of the Sky stage first, grind Nagomi’s five trials while your crab cages soak, and make the wish early. That leaves you the maximum amount of runway to actually finish the questline the wish hands you.
