Update 42.10 is the first big content drop of Chapter 7 Season 4 since Override launched, and it touches almost every corner of Fortnite. Battle Royale gets three new Sprites, six new Loot Hacks, and two Match Overrides. Fortnite OG rolls over into Season X. And LEGO Fortnite Odyssey finally gets fresh content in the form of a Batman crossover.
Quick answer: Servers go offline at 4AM ET on September 3rd, 2026 and are expected back by 6AM ET. When they return, Fortnite OG Season X will be live alongside the new Sprites, Loot Hacks, and Match Overrides.
Fortnite update 42.10 downtime schedule
Matchmaking shuts off half an hour before the servers actually go down, so the practical cutoff is earlier than the downtime window suggests. If you are mid-match when matchmaking disables, you can finish that game — you just will not be able to queue into another one.
| Stage | Time (September 3rd, 2026) |
|---|---|
| Matchmaking disabled | 3:30AM ET |
| Downtime begins | 4AM ET |
| Expected end of downtime | 6AM ET |
Note: the 6AM ET end time is an estimate, not a guarantee. Downtime windows can run long, and the update only counts as live once you can queue into a match again.
Fortnite OG Season X: New POIs, loot pool, and OG Pass
The biggest single item in 42.10 is Fortnite OG moving into Season X, which begins the same day the update lands. The OG island has already been reshaped by the Final Showdown live event, and Season X builds on that with new named locations and a reworked loot pool.
New OG map locations
Three POIs are being added: Tilted Town, Starry Suburbs, and The Meteor. Tilted Town is the obvious hot drop of the three. The Pandora Rift Zone, the Borderlands-themed area from the original Season X, is also part of the island.
OG Season X loot pool additions
Eight weapons, items, and forageables join the OG rotation. The B.R.U.T.E. and the Automatic Sniper Rifle are the two that will define how matches play out, since both were central to the original Season X meta.
- B.R.U.T.E.
- Automatic Sniper Rifle
- SR Tactical Submachine Gun
- Junk Rift
- Shield Bubble
- Zapper Trap
- Glitched Forageable
- Spicy Taco Forageable
New OG Pass skins
The OG Pass for Season X centers on three remixed versions of Season X outfits: X-Lord, Ultima Knight, and Catalyst. The X-Lord remix is a female variant of the character, which is a cosmetic change rather than a story one.
Three new Sprites in Battle Royale
Two of the three Sprites arriving with 42.10 come from the Design a Sprite community contest held earlier this year. The third is an Epic Games original that has not had its power revealed yet.
| Sprite | Power |
|---|---|
| X-Ray Sprite | Reveals players through walls and other objects for a short time |
| Onigiri Sprite | Consumables give extra health |
| Unknown Sprite | Not yet revealed |
Everything you have collected since Chapter 7 Season 3 lives in the Sprite Garden, which is already live and continues to pick up features and quality-of-life changes with each update.
Six new Loot Hacks replace the current set
Loot Hacks let you spend Sprite Dust to bias what drops from chests during your own match. The six items below swap in for the current lineup, meaning the previous Loot Hack options rotate out entirely.
- Rocket Ram
- Golden Banana
- Tracking Visor
- Holo Twister Assault Rifle
- Deadeye Assault Rifle
- Wrecker Revolver
The Rocket Ram is the standout for anyone who has been running Sonic Power Sneakers for mobility. It smashes through structures on impact, much like the God Mode Llama, so it doubles as an entry tool rather than just a rotation item. Loot Hacks are separate from Lobby Hack codes, which are entered in the Admin Panel back in the lobby and never affect what spawns in a match.
Two new Match Overrides: Big Heads and Prop Hunt
Match Overrides are claimed at Override Consoles and rewrite the rules for the entire server. Two more join the pool with this update, and both are lobby-wide gimmicks rather than straight power boosts.
| Match Override | Effect |
|---|---|
| Big Heads | Gives every player an oversized head, as seen during the April Fool’s event |
| Prop Hunt | Turns players into props, making opponents harder to spot |
Prop Hunt pairs well with a 1-Up Token in your inventory, since getting spotted while disguised usually means an immediate elimination. The token respawns you with your full loadout.
Batman arrives in LEGO Fortnite Odyssey
Batman villains have stolen chunks of Gotham City and hidden them across the LEGO Fortnite Odyssey island, with henchmen rifting in behind them. You recruit Batman by traveling to the Gotham-themed locations and completing the assignments he hands out.
The collab is not dropping all at once. Content rolls out weekly through October 15th, 2026, which puts the tail end of it right up against Fortnitemares season.
| Type | What you get |
|---|---|
| Vehicles | The Batmobile and The Bat, both buildable |
| Gadgets | Batglider, Bat Grapnel, and Bat-Signal, unlocked through quests |
Known issues shipping with v42.10
Two bugs were flagged in pre-release testing and are shipping with the update. Both have fixes targeted for v42.20 on September 17th, so expect them to stick around for roughly two weeks.
| Issue | Details |
|---|---|
| Coins missing from the HUD widget | Coins are granted and show in the inventory, but not the in-game HUD. The widget corrects itself after a manual respawn. |
| Prop pings on eliminated players | On Prop Hunt islands, an eliminated prop player can leave a ping at their last known location, and the prop counter keeps showing a survivor. |
On the creative side, 42.10 also fixes the VFX Powerup Device outline and glow effects failing to appear, the jetpack losing its hover-in-place behavior, Stat Devices not targeting custom stats, custom items and currency not showing up in the inventory UI, inconsistent SetPresentableToPlayers behavior across entities sharing a component, the Dev Assistant timing out silently while appearing to load, and incorrect lightsaber icons.
Everything above is drawn from the early notes, and Epic typically fills in the remaining details on update day itself — most notably the Unknown Sprite’s power, which is the one genuine blank left in the patch.
